Super 7 Gets Transformers Licensing: 2ft Optimus + Vinyl Soundwave Coming!

Hey all,

So Super7 is this awesome vinyl/designer toy company in SanFran. We visited with them this spring for ShelfLife ([Links are hidden for guests. Please Register.]) and they do great work.

They just announced at SDCC that they have been assigned Transformers licensing.

Here's the display:

What does this mean:

- 2 ft Transformers Machinder toys that will mimic their approach to StormTrooper and Boba Fett ones

- 6" high quality vinyl/designer TF toys...be excited, these will likely be amazing like this:

- Retro themed G1 art prints, t-shirts and glasses as they would have been released back in the day.

Very excited to see what comes out of this...their design chops are amazing.

Cheers

James & Team ShelfLife

WOW! The nostalgia freak in me is excited, but the realization of how much those Shogun Warrior Transformers will cost just made me frown a bit.

For those who don't know, these guys at Super7 are true toy nerds, almost to a fault. They were so obsessed with mimicking the original process of creating Jumbo Machinders when they took on the Stormtrooper project that they used very expensive and outdated production methods just to make this as authentic to late 70s/early 80s as possible. They could have produced these for far cheaper, but they wanted to make them EXACTLY as they would have been made back in the day. That gets costly fast, especially since the factories didn't exist anymore, and will most likely make these Jumbos far out of the price range of the average TF collector. Bummer, because they will be HUGE and full of retro goodness.

Yeah, we're likely talking $150-$200 for the 2ft optimus with firing hand missiles, but that's on par with what we pay for Masterpiece stuff, and for a lot of the "I only collect Optimus" guys I imagine this is an automatic addition.

Not 100% sure, but I think they we're trying to make it look like the '76-'77 Kenner Stormtrooper figures. Those didn't look that great, either.

They're actually filtering the original figures through the late 70s Machinder toys, so it's a multi-reference point thing.

You can learn about Jumbo-Machinder toys here:

Collection Count: Actually less than 90 and I'm really happy about it.
This is definitely a dream toy to me. I cant wait to see it. They've been taking so long on their Boba Fett though I can't imagine how long it will be until we see any real pics of Optimus.

My guess is spring 2013 for the 2ft Optimus. Perhaps sooner for the first vinyl figure as the production cycle is slightly shorter on those.
