I wasn't familiar with the Hartman name at first, still being a relatively new collector and fan of only a few years, but after doing some research on them and what they've done..

I can think of no other name that deserves the title, congratulations to them, and after this turn of events, I cannot wait for next year, and to see who gets the newly realized Hartman Awards.

    This is incredibly awesome.

If you've ever taken the time to meet Karl and Jon Hartman, they are two of the nicest, greatest people in this entire thing we call a Transformers fan community. They poured their hearts and wallets in to a Transformers convention, and they even sold off their collection to cover the cost of BotCon 2004, which was unofficial (OTFCC was around) and totally and completely on their own dime.

Having known Karl for many, many years now (something like 10?) and having had the joy to spend many hours talking to him about Transformers and life in general, I can tell you that he and his brother are truly, truly flattered by this - they are two of the most humble people you could ever meet. This is an awesome move by Hasbro to recognize everything that the Hartmans started.

One could argue that there would be no Transformers convention, at least not like it has been the last 18 years that is, without Jon and Karl Hartman. Gotta throw a big kudos to Pete Sinclair too, as he was behind the scenes for a lot of the Hartman-run shows and I know played a big part in a lot of the stuff. Probably no one prouder of those two than Pete right now.

If you think this is some ploy by FunPub to make the show about them ... do yourself a favor and read up on the history of BotCon and the Hartman brothers, and retract your statement.

My least favorite part of Botcon is always coming back and seeing how so many people just bleed illegitimate and unjustifiable disdain, cynicism, and hatred for everything. Stay classy.

I don't know about Swindle, did he even make the top 5 HERE, much less all over to even be shut down by Hasbro? I think Hasbro took last year's Erector campaign pretty well, and the video they showed at the hall of fame awards was a pretty classy acknowledgement of that. I hate seeing people still bitching about Erector getting robbed when Hasbro went above and beyond putting that video together.

As for the Hartman award, I like it. It's a much more obvious acknowledgement of the fandom and the roots of the convention.

Well, I think a lot of the "rigging" talk has to do with the fact that Swindle (by all available accounts) came in 5th in the voting, and it's understandable why they dropped him, but the next two vote-getters were Devastator and Unicron (tied), and then Sky-Byte. Yet they chose Sky-Byte for the nomination.

Besides, I wouldn't call it rigged because it would imply tht it was at one time legitimate.

How did Swindle get 5th anywhere? From what I can tell, he got 2nd here, and then he wasn't on any other website's list that I know of. And if the vote count wasn't submitted with the results, I wouldn't see how Swindle would have even been considered, legitimate or not.

I just don't see any evidence that says Swindle would or should have been one of the five nominees. To be fair though I still don't know if the vote counts were submitted with the results or not.

Anyways, I'm not to familiar with the history of Botcon, so thanks to Kickback for his post clearing up who the Hartmans are. Well deserved when you consider all that.

Can we please not have this topic turn into a HOF conspiracy topic?

I can understand them ignoring Devestator (considering he's six guys, not 1). As for Unicron, maybe Hasbro just doesn't want to induct guys like him, Primus, or the Thirteen

in other news, this is freaking awesome... these guys have been names i've heard for the past 10 years, and that's great for them.

he's a very tall dude... i met him at Botcon, and i'm 6' 4" and he towered over me... dude was easily one of the nicest people i met there, and very easy to talk to.

That's very cool. I grew up with Karl and his older brother Jon. They are great people and this is just very cool.
