They can't avoid trademarks by putting Decepticon or Autobot in front of a name they don't have the rights to. They do that to strengthen names they already have the rights to, which they tend to do with names that are considered too generic to protect on their own, e.g. dictionary words such as jazz and tracks.

Wow, I'd be lying if I said I thought this was awesome. I'll wait for the WFC Shockwave. This is... ick.

I like the figure, but I don't think it is a great figure. I would have liked one, but there is no way I'm paying 10x cost of the class that is just insane.

Why do these figures sell for so much when the class gives them away?

Because only the people who got into the class are 'given' the figures.

Limited entry to the classes + cost of entry to class = expensive figure limited to... what, less than 200 pieces?

    It is two separate issues.

    Issue #1:
You can't trademark the name "Jazz"! That's...like...a word, man. Jazz is for everybody.

OK, how about "Autobot Jazz"? Can I do that?

Yeah, sure man. "Autobot Jazz" is not an actual thing. Knock yourself out.

    Issue #2:
You can't trademark the name "Captain Picard"! That's...like...somebody's property, man. "Captain Picard" belongs to his owner.

OK, how about "Autobot Captain Picard"?

    ...No, man!

Man, I can't believe people are willing to pay $1,000 for this figure. There are at least 3 completed eBay listings where people paid a "Buy It Now" price of $1,000.

Wow. Congrats to those who made a $900+ profit on this figure! I'd do the same thing.

No kidding. If I could flip that bastard for $1,000 I'd do it too. I don't blame the sellers. I kinda feel sorry for the people that decide to pay that much for it. But it's their money.

Just think about what else $1,000 could buy. How about a nice large HDTV for example? Or how about a minty Fort Max with change left over? But you are right - it's their money.

If I were FP, I wouldn't cancel the class, I'd jack the price of the class up - they need to get in on some of that action!

I thought the people in the class had to sign something saying they wouldn't sell it...

Here's a pic of mine. This thing took over 8 hours to assemble and it wasn't easy.
