Yes and no. I'll meet you half way. WfC/FoC are 100% absolutely, unarguably G1 inspired. (90% of everything TF is of course, but this even more so) that's certainly true. However, inspiration aside, they are also 100% officially not part of G1 but are in Aligned with Prime which is what I was trying to say.

It's not so much aligned with the PRIME continuity, but this new G1 and PRIME and the books appear to be offshoots of another continuity origin- thus aligning them.

Um, why? You would prefer them to make it less futuristic and alien?
I would like for the alt modes to actually meant something. Flying soap bars is as generic as you can get.

See what complicates the matter is that there is a tendency to treat G1 as a continuity, instead of what it really is... a basic set of fairly specific characters. In many ways, each supposedly "G1" continuity is actually 100% not part of G1 either, if you catch my drift (in that they are not linked with each other).

WFC/FOC is absolutely a G1 property. Not just "inspired by", but rather a new permutation of that SPECIFIC set of characters, with only the most minor departures. It is as "G1" as IDW, and as DW before it, and as Marvel before that.

If one were to insist on the Aligned continuity connection, I would liken it more to the relationship between G1 and Beast Wars. They do form a continuity between them, but they are only unilaterally dependent. BeastWars relies on G1 (in some form, perhaps even it's own distinct branch). G1 however, does not rely on Beast Wars. Prime may be (awkwardly) contiguous with WFC, but that doesn't mean WFC is not a G1 object.

Or something like that.

Ummmm..... Soap bars? Really? Either you need to get some eye-glasses, or you use some weird soap.

Absolutely true and correct; and this is why I argue that All Hail Megatron and TF:Ongoing (and I guess MTMTE and RID) are G1: different stories with the same characters.

As for this "Aligned" stuff, I would like to see their definition of [u]aligned[/i] (altho I doubt that it will end any of these debates).

I think that's a more difficult case to make, since they are part of the same series and same chronological sequence of events that are inherently interdependent, even if the style of the writing and artwork changes (far too) frequently. The writers themselves are still (mostly) required to abide by events as they were portrayed in the earlier stories. That's sort of like saying that G1 Season 2 and G1 Season 3 are just different stories with the same characters, isn't it?

Though I know what you mean, to a degree... All Hail Megatron sure felt like it was intended as a standalone when it started. It all feels very far away now...

I think we're on the same page... but lets see:

We had the G1 cartoon, the US Marvel G1 comic and the Marvel UK G1 comic- all a part of G1, despite having nothing to do with each other.

And you (correctly so) threw WfC / FoC into that as well as being a G1 property.

Like WfC / FoC I throw in AHM- which will have to include that which came before and since (like TF:Ongoing). Why? Because these are the same generation of characters (but I would never attempt to connect them to Marvel US/UK toon, WfC, etc.)

So where does that leave G2? Misnamed and mismanaged.

As for my take on Beast Wars- BW was G1: TNG.
