Great timing. I'm just about done reading War Within for the first time. Thanks!

Wasn't Grimlock "dead" by issue #3, sacrificing himself for the peace process before Megatron arrived?

Dreamwave's War Within stuff is some of my all time favorite TF art, design & story canon, so seeing these finished (yet unreleased) pieces is salt in a wound that has never healed :)

LOVING the Dreamslaves stuff btw. The Ratchet design & GI Joe stories in particular were fascinating to read.

Yup, 100%. Still can't believe hardly any of that style managed to find its way over to IDW save for a few one-off issues here & there.

If memory serves off the top of my head, from Furman's synopsis of what he had planned, Grimlock comes back via one of the Seeker clones. Can't recall the details but that's why he has wing kibble.

Grimlock died in issue #1. However, Grimlock being Grimlock
his Spark somehow managed to coalese and eventually moved into one of the Jet Troopers, mutating it into a warped version mixing bits of Grimlock with the jet design. The upshot is implied to be that the body was rebuilt as Grimlock's own down the line.

God, I'd forgotten how ruddy awful DW's G1 art was. :(

Yeah it's not my favorite either, but I can see why some people might like it.

If only i could buy toys of those War Within designs.. and i don't mean Titanium Crap cause only Optimus was faithful to the design and even him was crappy with all that die cast.

I agree. I have all of the released issues. It had a decent plot and Grimlock was badass. Too bad they never released the last issues

Its not just the pencils; its the inks and its the coloring. Vivid and bold colors. And strong shading. Age of Wrath is decent, but the job done over the pencils in the Generation 1 ongoing is the finest example of what I'm talking about. It's how Transformers always should have looked. Every page was rich with detail. It was the best looking book on the stands.

Now? Even when the pencils are tolerable, IDW uses flat coloring and weird pastels. Pages are simple. Shading is almost none existent.

Once Transformers were among the best looking comics on the shelves. Now... well... they have nice covers that kinda remind folks of what the interiors should look like.

I think he's one of the Turbomasters, but his design seems to be a little more simplified than usual.
