Wow, so he is a Skyquake recolor even in the show. I wonder if he actually is Skyquake, considering Starscream fed him some Dark Energon last season.

Imo, this is definitely incredibly lame, especially given the emphasis they've been putting on Dreadwing.

"Here's this totally awesome new character... Who's a recolor."

Yeah such EMPHASIS they've been giving on Dreadwing.

The character that leaked from people bothering the voice actor in a unrelated convention.
They totally hyped him up and stuff.

Calling it now: Dreadwing is Skyquake's brother (thus their sharing a CGI model), out for revenge.

Point being that an Autobot who died in the first five minutes gets a new character model, but Dreadwing is a recolor?

Regardless, posts like yours are such a charm and nice addition to threads.

Actually, he was first mentioned offhandedly by James Horan (Wheeljack's voice actor) on Facebook.

So is Tony Todd voicing dreadwing? if so, me Likey. And to be honest, i dont care that he's a skyquake re-color. it would have been pointless to have that animation model for only 2 episodes and not use it again.

And before anyone mentions cliffjumper in relation to my last point, it's been mentioned we'll see cliffjumper in flashbacks.

CJ's character model's already been reused for Tailgate (and used in flashbacks, to boot), and his vehicle mode (sans horns) was used in Speed Metal. It's a CGI show; even with a higher budget, cutting costs by reusing models is nothing new, and sometimes encouraged.

Besides, it's not a matter of him sharing a body-type (which is almost a standard in TF history), as long as his character makes a worthwhile impression.

Here's the way I see it. The wanted to use the character and designed this great look. As they plotted out season 1, they realized they wouldn't be able to use him yet. So they moved him to season 2. Yet they still built the model in the computer, so they used it for Skyquake.

In short, Dreadwing isn't a redeco of Skyquake, it is the other way around. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the prototype figure we saw at SDCC was actually Dreadwing, but they kept it hush hush.

If they're making brand new models for Cliffjumper and Insecticons that die in 1 episode when they're on a thin CGI budget then it probably means that they actualy got a good reason for Dreadwing, who is in more than 6 episodes as confirmed by his VA, being a Skyquake look alike. Like, in story reason.

Dreadwing looks a lot like Depthcharge.

Yeah but the whole Tailgate thing seems a lot more acceptable since it's a very short flashback that doesn't show up very often. Unless Dreadwing dies off in a few episodes I don't see why he wouldn't have his own model, you know?

Fair point, didn't consider an in-story reason. But even then I feel like he could've at least had a head mod.

Eh, I can dig it. The colors are different enough. Besides, body-types are acceptable as of Animated.

I couldn't care less about him using the same design as Skyquake. As long as I get a Voyager sized toy of both of them I'll be a happy man indeed!:D

What emphasis? A couple of voice actors mentioning him and a single figure at Toy Fair?

How is that emphasis? He isn't even mentioned in the episode summaries in the TV guides. He has received no hype what so ever.

I hope they have a good story for why Skyquake and Dreadwing have the same mold. I can't stand using the same mold for different characters.

    Awesome.

And it looks like TFP Optimus has been taking notes from Bayformers Optimus: "Rule #21: When the enemy is down on the ground, aim a big-@$$ rifle at their face." :p
