I wouldn't feel comfortable renewing on the phone unless you use a prepaid or something similar. If its a database issue there is no reason to believe info would be safe yet.

I've been thinking inside job as well. There's definitely something FunPub is keeping from us.

None the less, I'm willing to forgive if FunPub steps up. Give us Paypal (or other modern payment options) and a website that doesn't leak out credit cards and personal information. And if it is an inside job, I hope they prosecute to the fullest extent of the law... even if it is a relative.

What we need, demand, and deserve isn't that much and is not unreasonable.

I wonder if a mass exodus will bring a paypal option.

Well that explains why I had my cc put on hold and had to request a new number, but the thing that pisses me off the most is I have yet to get this confirmation email from TCC.

Paypal is a reasonable alternative for them to put up now. Especially since they can't seem to isolate the problem.

I didn't get hit until today, and I made my transaction with them at the beginning of January.

FunPub seem to send emails out in batches (possibly due to their archaic servers), so you should get it within the next few hours.

Just had to cancel my cc today. I will take this opportunity to say a big F you to fun pub. We told you so you hacks. How about an apology from Pete who basically called us all conspiracy theorists.

No I don't, actually. I'm not in the US and have never had any interest in botcon or the exclusive toys. I've got no reason to figure out who runs it.
Guess I should have mentioned said member's name instead.

    agreed...

yeah, but like the message says, it takes time to figure this out... and there's no doubt in my mind that part of the delay comes from Brian Savage being out of town dealing with family issues... so, ultimately, i got some fraud charges, got them cleared, changed my cards, and i'm set again... it's annoying, but also it happens...

they're not taking any CC information at all at this point...

Pete, can you clarify if the renewal time will be extended due to this issue? or should we all just send checks in asap?

They are probably a bunch of Gobot Fanboys.

But seriously, probably ought to cancel that card before someone tries to steal the $46 that are left in that account. If their store was open I would use it to renew first, hell what have I got to lose now.

Maybe I will call and renew, and then cancel the card shortly afterwards, once that charge has hit, and been confirmed.

I just got hit today, so I wonder if a bunch of people were getting hit in the past few days in another round of fraud. $99 charged to iTunes, but luckily Discover shut it down this morning, so I didn't get hit hard.

Utterly ridiculous they don't use Paypal. I'd rather pay scalpers on ebay like I did last year for Counterpunch than go through this mess again!

    Three words: Told, you, so.

Funpub has been in "cover your ass" mode since this first started, and only put out warnings first through twitter and facebook (wtf?!?) and e-mailed after we complained for what seemed like days.

Funpub's performance is on par with Ford's performance when notified of issues with the Ford Pinto.

People calling in for membership renewals thinking that it will be safer should know this. It doesn't really matter if you register online once it's back up or call in. The operator/CS pretty much pulls the same page as the one that you register online. All info goes to a database. And the DB is where hackers hit.
