If FP doesn't want us coming up with our own theories or assuming the worst then they need to step up and start giving us some information. No more of this 'we can't tell you yet' garbage.

I assume that all information was compromised. I don't see any reason to assume some of their systems weren't when funpub doesn't know.

Look man I totally agree with you 100%. And we prob won't get an answer anytime soon.

My point was I prefer to make judgement on the company once I hear the facts from the horse's mouth. Speculations only fuel the fire and it's been raging for over 300 pages.

Information... yes but do you really think someone is sitting on their computer monitoring all email traffic coming in and out of FP on the off chance someone like me is going to email my CC info? I mean they are hackers not the CIA. ;)

They most likely used a brute force intrusion program to break into FP's network, grab everything they could and legged it. They wouldn't be stupid enough to leave connections active to the system when they know the company would be investiging the breach.

In anycase I'll eat my words if FP sends out an announcement telling all members to snail mail all communications to them in future!

    Son-Of-A-*itch!

I just received a phone call from my credit card company inquiring about 2 charges from yesterday and early this morning. $145 to Bestbuy.com, and $135 to Walmart.com, both unauthorized/fraudulent. God am I pissed. Now I have to go through the hassle of writing a letter to the card issuer contesting the charges. I do partly blame myself as I should have cancelled the card after FunPubs statements. The card was last used with FunPub to purchase the 2 club exclusives and a t-shirt.

    Update
I was able to cancel the orders/charges from Bestbuy.com and Walmart.com by calling them directly. Walmart.com was able to tell me that the order was going to Illinois, I live in Indiana. Bestbuy.com was able to inform me that the first name of the recipient was a Jason Chung. He tried to order an external hard drive.

For any business with these sorts of problems, putting public statements out about the specifics of your failures is a no good very bad horrible idea. It would be nearly equivalent to saying "hey, we really want a class action law suit to deal with, here's your evidence so you can win!"

I'm not defending FP, but dear god, what else do you people want them to do?

I want them to tell me prescisely WHY all of my personal information was being stored somewhere where it could be hacked, or why it was being stored AT ALL.

Well we know why names and addresses were stored. That makes sense to me. I mean they need your address on file for the shipping the mag and the membership figures.

So, I think you mean mainly finding out why our CC info was stored. It makes so sense to me because if they were going to store it like paypal does or other sites that do it, then I shouldn't need to plug it in every time. Because we plug it in every time none of us had any reason to believe they were storing them. Sure the processing company stores them but only for x amount of time till all transactions for x time period are processed.

So yes, this is information we need to be told.

I want them to own up to the fact that somewhere in their chain of 'security' there was a breach. I want to know whether it was from the inside or the outside. I want to know exactly how much information was taken and I want to know exactly what steps are being taken to ensure this doesn't happen again.

And I bet we find out all the details shortly after March 16th. Logistics, remember?

    They did this, at least.

They admitted there was a "security issue" but still haven't told us what was taken in terms of information, though we all know its credit card numbers and personal information. We don't need an "investigation" to tell us that.

The only answer you're going to get is that they are still conducting an investigation (now in its second month) and that they will share the details "when they are available."

The official word on the website is that as of 2/29 they still "do not know exactly what data was taken." I really wonder what is going on with this secretive investigation where, over a month later, we still have no idea what is going on.

I just got hit today with a fraudulent charge from Yahoo wallet. My credit card company was on their game and called me before I had a chance to call them.

Or until after the Botcon packages sell out...which still hasn't happened yet, and we're only about a month away from the convention.

Same here, I just got hit today with a $1 google charge. I caught it just in time before anymore purchases where made. The one and only purchase I made on this new card was with TFCC, on the 2nd time the runabout preorders went up on wednesday. Some luck, the one time I decide to join the club, it turns into a complete cluster fuck.

i highly doubt they're using membership money to pay off convention centers, that would be a terribly risky gamble for ANY company.

there're 2 reasons... 1) they think they'll be the lucky one who isn't hit, which is stupid or 2) they're waiting to be hit so they can send the info to FP and use that, and also be part of any action that comes later... if FP decides to send out a reimbursement or some bonus thing to everyone who emailed them, you'll have to have emailed them to get that...

that's what i figured... there's no way to speed up an order from the factory last minute, as far as i know.

how big did you think they were? just curious, because i've never thought of them as a company that had more than 30 employees at any one time... and from the looks of it, that's about right...

or, they can't change the date for some other reason we don't know? lets say they make X amount of figures, and currently have X minus Y members (where Y is <500) now, lets say they extend that date out, and a bunch of people rejoin, Z (and Z is >500) then, you now have (X-Y)+Z which would put them over the limit of the toys they made, potentially causing even more issues when people don't get the toys they were told they'd get when they joined...

now, that's just my speculation, but it makes far more sense to stick with a hard date (as much as that sucks for some members) then to change it and potentially open up to far more issues.

if we had 4 months until registration was due, no one would worry about that, but this time crunch definitely does suck...

and that's what we call logical thinking...

who said they put logistics ahead of security? and see my example above about how logistics might have forced their hand in this situation... hopefully, if nothing else, FP will hold a ton of extra Runamucks for the store, and sell them 1 at a time to people who need them... I'll help more international members as best I can, when that time comes, because as of right now, they're totally having a hard time with this, and if the club sells extra Runamucks, I will buy a few to sell to other members at cost, so they can complete their duo...

i had a different name associated with my charges... i'm guessing the hackers, or whoever they sold the numbers to, are smart enough to not use their own names and addresses...

well, see, if it's on the internet, it can be hacked... that's just a fact... TFW2005, Yahoo, Porn sites, whatever, they're all vulnerable, it just depends on what they do to protect that... FP was told by their protectors (that sounds weird, but you get the idea) that their stuff was safe... the names and addresses make sense, since they mail something out every 2 months... now, as for why the CC numbers were being stored, that i have no idea, and i want to know the answer to as well...

i'm actually betting that we won't find out until after Botcon, not because they're hiding anything, but because it takes time... but then again, i could be wrong and they're just sitting back lounging in the hot tub full of money like Scrooge McDuck...

make sure you guys fill out the information needed and send it to FP so it can help them with their investigation.

Do you register with the club 6 months in advance or something? You keep ripping on people for not having already renewed prior to all this happening as if it's our fault that their system fell apart.

I would have done my membership online several weeks ago had it been possible. That would have been a solid month in advance. I didn't see much reason why I should renew my membership multiple months in advance when all it involved was entering some info online and having it done instantly.

I even would have mailed it in at least a week sooner than I did if they hadn't taken so long to tell us what they wanted us to do as far as how to send it. For reference, my check was cashed today so they still got it a week in advance of the due date.

In any case, none of this was the result of my failure to do this early enough and was entirely their fault.
