i never post on here but i felt i had to throw my case in too.

In 12 years ive never been hit by fraud, but a week after renewing my TFCC membership i got hit with £1000 worth of charges

Its sorted now but the timing had me spooked and the fact that this is happening ACROSS THE FANDOM means that its not an isolated incident or random coincidence

i believe Authorize.net is the new CC processor, and no one here is saying that The Club stole their info, i think we can all safely assume that IF there was indeed a breach, it was probably via the old CC processor... the issue is the club not even acknowledging this is a possibility...

that's at least a step in the right direction, but your 2 previous posts shouldn't have happened at all... this should've been the first response man...

I posted about my fraud on Seibertron last week when this story ran over there. It's not clear to me who the source is. I have two fraudulent charges on my AMEX. However, the first one came several days before the TFCC orders opened. The charges I got were:
    1/31/12 Gamestop.com $49.99 purchase (I've never purchased from Gamestop.com)
1/16/12 Experian credit report purchase of ~$17 (which is odd and the AMEX rep said "maybe they're trying to steal your ID"....great....)

I successfully disputed both because AMEX is awesome.

I know this can't be from FunPub since they don't accept AMEX (lame). On my VISA, I haven't noticed any unusual charges.

TF related, I've purchased, with my AMEX, from BBTS and TFSource. However, I use my AMEX whenever possible for the cash-back rewards. Who knows where this could have originated from.

BTW, I've said this too many times now but it still needs to be said. If you are purchasing on line with your DEBIT card, you are setting yourself up for a horrible hassle. Just use a credit card. I know some of you might not be able to get credit cards easily, but you can. If you're young and have no credit, you can get a secured credit card through your bank. Credit cards give you so much more flexibility when disputing a charge. When you have a fraudulent charge on you debit card, that's as good as cash and you won't get it back until the bank processes the dispute. That can take quite some time and meanwhile you're short that much cash. With the credit, those charges are put on hold in dispute and you do not have to pay the balance for that charge nor do you accrue interest.

I'm not 100% positive but I don't think Paypal allows it.

Yes and no. You can preorder stuff on ebay if you pay up front. While they may not allow it, they certainly do not stop it. Since TFCC does preorders for these up front, Paypal could be an option.

Just to be clear, a card need not be used online at all to be subject to fraud.

Yeah, it's not FunPub's breech of security, but the company they used. The issue is exactly what was already stated, FubPUb should have sent out an email for everyone to check their accounts as a heads up.

    Not that difficult.

Yes I realize this. However when said card is used to purchase coffee at my job and really nothing else (as it is my secondary account) besides the occasional online transaction (again only Fun Pub in so many months), then I have to go with what is more than likely. Haven't heard a single other person at work complain about $1 Google charges from a drink purchase from Aramark.

47 people in the last 7 days. And that's just the people that have posted in "this" thread on THIS site. There may be other threads on the forum where people have posted. People are posting on Seibertron.com that they have been hit as well (which, BTW, they posted a "warning" thread last Thursday soon after the first reports started trickling in).

Plus, not every collector is a member of a forum, or if they are they only periodically check in. Who knows how many other people are affected?

The sad thing is, NOBODY directly blames TFCC for the compromised info, the main point of contention is that they should have taken five minutes of their time to send an email to their membership stating that something may have happened and to check their accounts. The fact that their only acknowledgement of the issue (up until a few minutes ago) was some half-assed "well it happens to everybody, only a few people have contacted us about it" response from Pete is horrendous customer service. Considering that the people that have contacted you, have NOT received any response whatsoever, I am not surprised that only "a few" have contacted you, as they obviously view it as a waste of their time.

Can you imagine how many headaches could have been saved if an email went out last Thursday or Friday? Practically everybody would have had praise for the Club and said "Hey, thanks for the heads up. Good to see you have your customers' best interests in mind." Sadly, that did not happen and we all know how important we really are in the club's eyes.

From an outsider looking in, one could view the stone-cold silence on the part of the TFCC and come away with an opinion that maybe they know more about the security issue than they would want us to believe. Oddly enough, I just checked out the TFCC forums (Feedback, Club News, General Discussion and Botcon2012 subforums). No topics exist on this matter, and I don't see any posts on this matter. Ironic, isn't it? Then again, every other attempt to access their forums took about 10-15 seconds to load and then was met with a 500 error, so I stopped wasting my time after a minute or two.

That's what a lot of people are about to do with the club: Stop wasting their time.

Well, no posts exist on the TCC forums because nobody actually uses them.

Which, might I add, is in of itself an issue.

yeah, i thought it looked familiar...

and apparently my $1 from BBTS is legit, they apparently run the charge through on preorders now, never saw them do that before, but it could be a new system update... it's been awhile since i last preordered something from them...

Wow I see others with Chase have a mysterious charge as well to Google, Chase woke me up yesterday at the first hrs of being open to call and confirm that I made that charge. Thing is I don't use my card all that much, however, I was thinking on using it on the club site 'cuz my other one didn't go through, though the card I did use has nothing suspicious on it. . . yet.
