BotCon 2011 was the first I went to. I didn't decide to go until the BotCon hotels were already booked. But I ended up finding a cheaper deal at a hotel a couple blocks away. So if price is a concern, you can definitely find a better hotel deal somewhere else. But, I know that its more convenient to stay at the convention hotel, especially if you plan to buy a lot in the dealer room. It can be a pain to lug things around during the day. If your at the convention hotel, you can quickly go to your room, drop off your goods, and go back within in minutes basically. The deal with the Hyatt is $129.00 a night. If the price works for you, just hold off and see what other deals FunPub comes up with then for hotels. If the price is out of your budget, then I'd suggest looking for a different hotel, in the area. People mentioned there were a ton of hotels around the convention, so it shouldn't be an issue to find a better deal. You might just have to factor in a taxi ride to and from the con during the day. Also, sharing the room with someone always helps bring costs down. If you decide to go with a cheaper hotel, you can probably wait till end of February to reserve it...
So why do people keep trying to say Nemesis Prime is called Scourge? I think we all know that Scourge is the blue leader of the Sweeps...
First of all people need to stop freaking out. THEY will open more rooms up. It may not be at the Hyatt but they will look around at other hotels in that area and get some rooms. If you dont believe me go look at the archives of the last botcons and see how many hotels they had for them. So be patient and they will open up. Calm down!!!!
No, I was being serious. I've looked it up in the archives since, and I guess I kind of see that side of the argument, but that wasn't until 2003. Scourge was already an established name/character since '86, so I guess I don't really understand the artificial drive to make Nemesis Prime into Scourge. Not that "Nemesis Prime" is any better....
In Robots In Disguise, the series black Prime debuted as "Scourge", we also got a green back-hoe construction bot named Grimlock.
wow so it will be almost $250 to skip the toys just to go to the convention outside just being a walk-in....that is rediculous...... i'm torn going to botcon or my anime convention, i've made so many friends at my anime convention yet this is my one shot at going to botcon, but with such a short time until the convention i don't know if i can save the money for the box set in time to make registration
You can turn right around and sell the boxset in the dealer's room for what you paid, easily (dealers will buy, or you can sell it on the trading board). Usually you can profit too, but you can definitely, at a minimum, get what you paid for it. That basically gives you a free pass to the convention, so you're just out hotel / food costs. So you have to have enough money to make the purchase, but you can get it back at the convention itself.
Agreed - this is how I've managed to justify going to BotCon vs DragonCon each year. I love both, but by reselling the boxed set & show exclusives, I pay a good chunk to all of my vacation expenses. First year I went, I couldn't swing the Primus, and noone I personally knew, knew that Protoform didn't include even the attendee fig. Thus, for the $100 "savings" - plus having to find something to do while your buds are at the Fri/Sat dinner - yeah.... Several of my LJ friends sold their box at the show, or shortly thereafter for tiny profit. Getting in the door for "free" & still being able to experience the entirity of the Con is worth the $100. If the Protoform included at least the Attendee fig (since you're still pre-reg'd), it would be tolerable.
gosh, botcon announced in texas, black shadow and junkheap will come in the mail any moment now, and i get a promotion at work, this week kicks ASS!
Even better, pre-sell your package. Find someone who's willing to pay you to show up, pick up the boxset, attendee freebie, and show exclusives. Their benefit: 1) Get boxset freebie 2) Get add-ons at cost Their contribution 1) Cost of all toys (which includes your admission) 2) Immediate payment when registration comes up 3) Shipping cost of toys Your benefit: 1) Free admission to all Botcon events (autographs, priority for panels) 2) Chance to go in and out from Friday-Sunday. 3) Not having to stand in line for one-day attendance. 4) Chance to buy additional add-ons for yourself. Your contribution 1) Standing in line to pick up the add-ons 2) Not overcharging them for the add-ons 3) Packing and shipping the package
Yea, I have done this for the last 3 years and it has worked perfectly every year for my wife. I pay for all of my stuff and whom ever I deal with pays upfront for their boxset (her sets) and since we are together anyways, she picks up the sets and we mail them out from the Con. I normally charge $60 which is a heck of a lot cheaper than risking Ebay prices.
Looks like I might finally be attending one of these. I've been waiting for one to be close enough to Oklahoma City, that I could just drive to it.
Well Spirt Airlines will be flying out of Mesa next year, I got a round trip to Dallas for me and my Daughter to DFW for $386. That's over 50% less than any other airline
