welp, time to get rid of the shitty vhs rip raws and wait for fansub or official us release. i know the story and characters are shit, but i still want to see what i missed out on BWII and Neo since i'm fan of the molds that never made it to the us.

$300 for anime dvd set seems like the norm in Japan no matter how shitty the actual contents are, all their entertainment media cost at least twice as much and publishers mark it up whatever they felt like, but that's only the initial release day price, after a year or two it's pretty much just market price, things that sold well remain higher priced while things that don't sell get discounted pretty heavily.

in the us we have the opposite model, everything is fairly cheap and have "standardized" price, $30 ds/psp games, $60 xbox games, $30 blurays etc, with the exception of occasional sales, physical retail store prices remains fairly constant for years even for shitty shovelwares on the ds and wii, so that's the trade off.

Because the average Japanese DVD is really expensive and always has been?

Plus the exchange rate and whatnot.

I sure hope that they do, as I'm definitely interested in seeing this series.

Yay! I also want a Western Subbed Release. BWII and BWN are the only TF cartoons I've never seen, and don't own.

Yeah I've got the BWII raws, never watched em though. Not much point IMO if I can't understand what's being said.

This betters our chances, a lot of Japanese Studios refuse to have any country to get DVD versions of their material before them. Now that they got it, let's aim for the top

Glenat got sued by Toei when they made a DVD boxset of Grendizer in Canada before Japan did.

Frankly a western release of these shows just wasn't possible without a Japanese release, as others have said. NOW, however, between the US, UK, Austrailia, and fansubbers, our chances of getting some kind of English release are much, much higher.

I sat down and watched both shows raw recently, having a decent enough understanding of Japanese to follow most dialogue in real time. They're... flawed, but better than some people realize. Perhaps the best thing about these two shows is that they're one of the few transformers shows to have all TFs and no humans whatsoever (With Beast Machines perhaps being the only other show that does).

Neo's got a much more focused plot than II, of course, but both are worth seeing for the novelty.

(Also, I prefer to think of them the way IDW layed out its BW timeline, where II and Neo occur both before and shortly after the Pax Cybertronia. They actually fit in the timeline fairly well when viewed this way... and Japan really had no reason to "retcon" them into the super far future like it did.)

I'm sure Hasbro would love to introduce the rest of the world to the fantastically stereotypically Mexican antics of the Jointron Bros.

25.000 Yen? Are these guys serious? Oh well, time to wait for torrents.

I have been looking for the show for a long time now, but only found crappy VHS rips (what are these 'raw' versions people mention?) I simply love BWII, probably the only TF anime I enjoyed.

Does anyone know whether this DVD is likely to have japanese subtitles? It'd make translating easier... a friend of mine might be willing to do it.

They were no more offensive then the fantastically sterotypical blue collar Constructicons in Animated. And both were hilarious.

What, is Monty Python censored in the USA as well? Because their humor involves a lot of racial/ethnic stereotyping as well. Darn funny nonetheless.

AFAIK, 'raw' versions are direct rips from the Japanese source, without subtitles of any sort.
