I'm VERY disappointed that they changed the names. That doesn't bode well for Masterforce. Go Shooter, Cab, and ESPECIALLY Minerva are NOT Siren, Hosehead, and Nightbeat.

Don't even get me started on Ginrai....

This^ I was stoked to hear about thsi release but if they cant be bothered to dub it over in eglish i can't be bothered to waste my money on it. too bad i was lookin' forwards to this release. oh well. they will nwo use the poro sales excuse to not bring the others over i will wager. And they wouldn;'t have HAD poor sales if they had just dubbed it in english!

No, I'm just saying that if they changed all the names in Headmasters, they might change them in Masterforce, too. I hope they don't...

Masterforce is my favorite G1 season, too.

Yeah, like those people who are too lazy to research the economics behind dubbing. (especially when said reasons have been posted in this very thread several times)

Convoy and Optimus Prime are the same guy, so changing his name in Headmasters for the convenience of Western audiences makes sense. Minvera and Nightbeat are not the same situation. Since Shout Factory is working with Aaron Archer approved subtitles, I assume they know the difference.

I picked up the Headmasters set at Botcon and I agree that the subtitles have some very appalling typos in them. As a G1 fan, I was happy to pick up the set for $23 and I definitely prefer subs to dubbing, but the subs for this set look very rushed.

Good! I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed :lol

$23 is a steal. But this was a very rushed sub.

I certainly have no problem watching the subs, but I wonder if sales will be low due to the lack of a dub. It does kind of suck for those with young children. I had been hoping for years that Hasbro would dub these shows as the "lost G1" episodes and use Frank Welker, Peter Cullen and the rest of the gang who was still available. I know that may cost a bit, but then, they'd sell a lot more.

So... in addition to putting out ports of Rhino's Beast Wars episodes, complete with the infamous truncated opening and ending credits, Shout haven't even QC-d the new subtitles for Headmasters properly?

Man, they really fall to pieces when they have to rush out product to cash in on the live-action films, just like when all the packaging material for the G1 set couldn't be corrected to reflect what was actually on the DVDs, etc.

Can you at least tell if the episodes are unedited, unlike the U.K. and Australian sets? Best way of checking is taking a look at the opening scenes of the first episode. If, after the opening credits, it opens with a recap of the Transformers' history, including the death of Optimus Prime and Megatron's replacement by Galvatron, the series is likely unedited.

oh for crying out loud..just read the god darn subtitles..is it that hard to read????

If you ppl in here complaining that you wont buy the show because they are subbed and wont buy the other (Masterforce and Victory) well thats your own darn lose. The shows are great and works best with their original voiceacting and english subtitles.

I have the Takara Collection from MEtrodom with all three shows and the Zone episode- and they are all great. Masterforce is the best of the three.

But I guess some ppl are to darn lazy to read subtitle or perhapps cant read...this fandom never stops to surpsise me,,,

This was the approach we took on the UK DVDs as well, changing the names for Headmasters because the characters are the same as their American counterparts, but keeping the Masterforce characters distinct because they're separate individuals. I don't think there's much cause to worry just yet.

I am wondering what the extent of the changes was for Headmasters, though! Is Fortress Maximus's head "Fortress" or "Cerebros"? We wanted to keep the Fortress/Maximus wordplay so we left it at "Fortress" for the Metrodome release, but that was about the only allowance.

Oh shit yeah, I forgot about that! Do take a look at the set and let us know what the story is on this one, please, Kickback!

It hasn't been released yet, as they're presumably still ironing out the details in the other 2 series. I got an e-mail saying they found better video masters and thus pushed the release date "back a week" (it was originally set for July 5, now it's July 12) so they could make use of the better masters.

Cerebros is Cerebros and Fortress Maximus is Fortress Maximus. No "Fortress" in Shout! Factory's sub.

I preordered when I first heard about this, but I'm frustrated by Shout's inability to answer whether or not the complete set will be available on Amazon.

I know it's available at Shout's website, but my preference would be to buy form Amazon and presumably save off the retail price and get free shipping.

For those of you complaining that your kids can't enjoy this: This show isn't for your kids. This show is for Japanese schoolchildren from 1988. I've watched a handful of the episodes and while the design is G1, a lot of your favorites are acting very out of character. (Also, the show needs more Springer. Han-Solo-bot is awesome!)

Also, add my voice to the pile of "You're really complaining about this? We're lucky to see a release of this show at all and you're complaining about the lack of a dub?"

Yeah, I would've loved to see Cullen and Co. come back and play their old characters (and judging by some of the things I've heard, so would veterans like Michael Bell and Gregg Berger...), but at the same time, we'd be paying OUT THE ARSE for them.

And SHOUT! Factory had to fight tooth and nail with Hasbro to get these out.

Whatever. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I, on the other hand, will gladly apply these DVDs directly to my forehead!

    (Head*On! Get it?)

I can dig it. And I take it Scorponok is "Zarak" in this, as on Metrodome, if you're that far in?

They've referenced him as "Scorponok" thus far. Haven't actually gotten to the parts where the Headmaster robot Zarak is yet but that's on today's agenda.
