You have a point. But what is done is done already. If people feel bad about it they can donate directly to Jpn red cross. There is, still no point to harp on things already done, but I guess if its to tell others that they don't need money anymore, fine. However, wouldn't that "side topic" be one that should be another thread, down in general discussion?

Actually, I don't fault the Times. It's appropriate to tell people "Hey, all that good will you're pouring into this crisis, thanks, but it might be better directed another way." We want to do the most good we can with our limited resources, right?

But, yeah, as far as this campaign goes, it goes to the Red Cross, so I'm confident it will do good one way or another.

Normally I donate blood to the Red Cross, since I do not have very much money at all, but as an obsessed fan of Transformers, FP was able to motivate me to give some of the little money I have and give it to a country in shambles, or wherever it may go through the Red Cross. I don't feel bad, or ashamed that it took an incentive to get me to donate money.

IMO, donations are made in exchange for items/services all the time. Whether it's a bake sale, car wash, or even getting a receipt so you can deduct it from your taxes.

If you want to get specific about it, then what FP is doing would probably be better labeled as fundraising rather than donating. But really that's just a lot of semantics. Once you start talking about who did or didn't donate before an item was offered in exchange for said-donation, then it becomes a discussion of who's a better person, morally, and that cheapens the overall goal behind the donations, IMO.

Got a confirmation email saying that my donations were received (one was made on behalf of my sister-in-law) and that I would be receiving two Blessers in the future. One is for me and the other one I'll either give away or put it up for charity auction.

I received the automated e-mail Friday Night/Early Saturday Morning immediately after I made my donation. Haven't heard anything else though. I can only imagine the amount of e-mails they have to process.

Give them time. It will take a few days I'm sure. Relax.

Let me know if you put it up for charity auction. I donated but may have missed out. I wouldn't mind seeing more money go to the people in need.

Nobody jump on me for saying that, please! I donate all the time without ever asking for things in return.

Mmhmm... that might also make it likely that those of US who didn't get one locked in directly through Fansproject might bid up such an auction to a high value.... :D

No problems. :D  I expect we'll see a surge of Blesser auctions as soon as people start to take delivery.

I hope not. Unless all proceeds go to Japan relief. Kills the motivation for groups like Fansproject to do things like this. Not to mention them explicitly asking individuals and retailers NOT to do that exact thing. It's a slap in the face to people in Japan and Fansproject.

Completely agree with you there. I'm hoping most of them will be charity auctions, but I'm almost certain someone will try and make some money out of this. Let's hope they are in the extreme minority.

as they have put on their site.

"After sorting out all of your information, we will be sending confirmation e-mail to confirm your name and your mailing address. This might take us some time to have it done. "

keep in mind they are manually doing this its not some massive set up like other stores have.

if your luckly to be one of the first to get the e-mail kudos to you I guess

Do you guys really think there's aftermarket value on this guy?

Personally, I just got it because of the fact that the money was going to charity. If it was a general release I wouldn't have even blinked at it. Let alone pay ridiculous aftermarket prices for it.

I think this is a very fair question. Leave aside whether it would be borish to try to resell this thing, I'm not at all confident that they'd get very much for it if they tried.

You guys are grossly underestimating the popularity of FansProject combined with the appeal of a figure limited to 1500. If that toy was released in the same numbers and retail value as Sidearm, it would sell just as well as Sidearm (and Sidearm seems to be pretty well-liked). Now, Sidearm may not cost much, but tell someone that the stock for it is extremely limited, and their wallets will open a little wider. To this day I don't know what the point of Shadow Commander was, but he's probably the most expensive of the Commanders on the aftermarket.
