In a way you sort of have to love mistransformations because Starscream looks like he's wearing a diaper :D

Well that sucks. I was hoping for a cool looking robot mode but while the design of the robot itself looks cool everything looks mis-proportioned and the figure looks like total crap. The whole upper body looks like a shell former.

Unless it's still mistransformed. I don't know, usually my opinion is based on how close it looks to the on-screen character (Minus a few factors). I was hoping for it to look more like the legends, the way how the sides of the front of the car form over the shoulders and onto the chest. Looks better in my opinion.

Is that gold plastic I see on Starscream? Looks like he'll end up in pieces like movie 1 protoform Starscream. GPS sufferer.

Gah, what is it with these Mech Tech weapons? Absolutely hideous - and of the new (i.e created from scratch, not reworked like the Ironhide update) moulds we've seen so far, its clear that this gimmick is "working" at the expense of the designs - both in terms of budget and creativity. Such a shame.

I was gonna say the same thing about the legends figure myself. It looks good for its class and I think I prefer what they did with that.

This's definitely a Fast Action Battler style transformation, but I think it's probably a deluxe. The thing to bear in mind is that all the plastic and complexity that goes into the mechtech weapon probably leaves less for the figure itself. The door arms are very typical of FABs and smaller size classes.

One of the things I don't like about figures like this deluxe, is that the chestpiece is essentially presculpted... it doesn't look like any of that transforms. I prefer figures where forming the torso is central to the transformation and that do as little cheating as possible.

They may have a different vendor for their plastics. One may offer a set color palette, while another has a different one. And each vendor may have different pricing per lot of pellets.

Also, the design team may have determined that the Pinchers had to be light grey. Well, that may determine what the color of the grey that is used will look like. I'm willing to bet a paycheck that many of these molds are one shot molds with different features maximizing piece output per cycle (like you see in plastic model kits with gates and runners going every which way). So, a grey is picked based on design preference or cost limitations, and they shoot the whole thing.

As far as these figures and the rest of the DOTM leaks are concerned:

I think if that the MECH TECH "weapons" looked more like, oh I don't know, WEAPONS rather than giant hunks of fuzed together lego blocks, the gimick may have worked better per figure. I say "per figure" because we do not know if they will all transform into something bigger which would be sales gold for Hasbro.

The Dreads will probably be everyone's favorite bots in the movie. I can see it coming. They are rumored to be assassins, and the pinchers may play a very key role in carrying out those duties. Can't you picture it? Bad A cop SUVs barreling down the streets, bisecting people in the crosswalks!!! That may be a little more rated "R" than what this franchise wants, but it can be implied or suggested. They could be brutal.

The toy? While not the best (looks like a movieverse insecticon), and it will be kibble city, much like Jolt (where is the rest of the SUV?), I will still own one, or more, depending on their screen presences. I am an on screen completist. I am digging the design cues of the characters, but the toys are suffering. Nothing like Voyager Optimus. That is trash. Sorry, but he is.

Starscream... while it would be nice to have a deluxe representation, this one does look mediocre at best. I hope to be surprised. Not planning on getting him right now.

And count count me out of the the HA Basic camp. I think they look cheap, and the helicopter sealed that deal for me. Gak.

The Dread looks somewhat badass, but I am really not feeling Starscream.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm mainly hunting for the Legends class TFs this time around, minus a few Voyagers.

The robot mode does look like it was inspired by one of the Insecticons.

Unless Hasbro is slacking off big time, that Starscream is mistransformed A LOT. And from the looks of things, it doesn't look too bad. And the dreaded Dread - when did they announce the Transformers Crossover PREDATOR? :D

For deluxe mech tech, it does seem like you will need 2 mech tech weapons to make the robots balance while standing. I wonder if Hasbro will sell extra mech tech weapons separately. So far, it looks like the Optimus trailers will be sold separately.

It does look a bit knock-offy with all that unpainted plastic, but I think it looks decent enough, all things considered. It's not going to look as good as the leader or voyager, but we shouldn't expect that.

    It'll probably seem tiny though.

Personally I doubt it, and I also doubt they'll sell the trailer seperately. But we'll see.

terrible photo quality and grievous mistransformation on SS aside, the dread doesn't look that bad, just with an oversized mechtech gun like everyone else seems to have.

    ACTUALLY!

If the Dread's pincers can open up some more, then he'd look almost identical essentially to Shrapnel

I'm pretty sure they can as I think they can slide under the SUV in vehicle mode. They definitely seem to be on rotating joints.

Wow, SS is ugly as hell, mis-transformed or not. The gold is just ugly. Will stick with leader class SS, unless a new tatto-free SS shows up outside of MP.

    Shrapnel looks decent.
