I though the predacons were the ani-bots when I first heard of them to, make sense if you think about it, I mean why are they called the predacons when two of them aren't predators?

Cool read. Nice to know some of the original ideas and how it morphed into the movie. Personally I would have liked to see some of the scenes as outlined here but overall I feel like the end product turned out better than this

The funny thing is I started looking at the Roboto-Zoo Lab and the Anibots this morning and figuring out a way to make them and the Roboto-Zoo. I originally thought Beast Wars figures, but then read where they were most likely retooled as the Predacons and went the same route of repainting the Predacons - however Dragon Beast would be more like something from Beast Wars than Predaking. I find it funny that the lion Anibot is named Simba which Disney used for Lion King!

The whole point of the movie was to kill off the old toy line so they could sell the new toys!

I'm sorry... what does that say in heavy black writing at the top of page 3, in reference to Springer?

He is interested in Arcee in a what kind of way?

    Can anyone decipher that? :banghead:

Heh I was just thinking after reading Pun-3X's comic the other day that the Predacons had suprisingly friendly looking bot faces. Guess this puts them in the same boat as Overlord then.

Interesting read. Some of the elements I think I'd prefer to what we got.

I think this is the final nail in the coffin about the Anibots being Predaking. Hot Rod was going to have a more gradual slope of maturing, which would've been nice. The different origin for Galvatron and company would've been neat. Though if Scourge and Cyclonus were past Decepticon leaders, man that could've been part of some really interesting stories later on.

    Interesting read, thanks for posting!

I dunno why the Anibots must be labelled on all message boards as "mysterious" - it's obvious to anyone who has some brains that they were the to-be-Predacons, whose molds Hasbro bought from another company, and at the time of the script draft it was yet unsure whether they'd have been Autobots or Decepticons. If you think about it, red, gold orange and yellow are not really "evil" colors, the black and gray nonwithstanding.

Funny how poor Magnus was set up to be a failure from the start. And I guess Wreck-Gar just did not learn latin in the end. :)  Also, poor Snarl was left out from the script alltogether, no wonder he only appears as an animation error.

The "black list" is indeed outrageous. Besides, didn't Shockwave still had a toy in 1986? Or he just ran for 1 year?

I havent read threw this yet, but I dont see how it can put an end to that debate.

I dont think the debate was ever about wether Brawn was "intended" to die.

Its about wether it was truly depicted on film.

And behind the scenes materials are never canon with the finished product.

    Thank you:thumbs2:

Agree... though the thing about "only leaders have essences" is a bit weird, and the free-floating "essences" (what, ghosts? robo-ectoplasm?) drifting around feels a bit half-baked. But it definitely adds an interesting wrinkle to Cyclonus and Scourge that I would have liked to see held over (if only to kill the ol' "who was reformatted as who" debate).

I know ol' Sto can be bull-headed sometimes, but I think you guys are going out on a limb here.

Read this script treatment and compare it to the final product. Notice how so much of it is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than the movie we got? That's because, canonically, this treatment never happened. So some arcane "feel free to kill these guys" list doesn't really have anything to say about what appeared onscreen in the final movie. :inquisiti

That said, despite the rawness of the story guts, and the fact that the final script tightened things up in quite a few areas, there are still some neat plot ideas in this treatment that got lost in the shuffle. Too bad.

The Predaking design is so ingrained in my mind as villainous, I would never have assumed it'd potentially be the Anibots. :lol

The summary way that death list is put together sure matches with how they killed off the characters in the movie. No epic battle, no great sacrifices, no lives hanging in the balance. BANG. Dead. BANG. Dead. The characters we all followed over the course of the cartoon series are summarily executed in a mundane manner without so much as a whimper. They were the metaphorical bugs in a windshield, barely noticed and not cared for as they were splattered.

I still hate that particular part of the movie. Not because the characters died, but because of the way it was handled. In the entire arc of the cartoon to that point, the characters went to extraordinary lengths to save each other from death, and within a few minutes a large part of the cast was killed off without any fanfare. Worse still, a few minutes later we are forced to listen to some awful cheery 80's pop rock song as Daniel and Hot Rod cruise around without a care in the world.

I'd say "I could write better", but honestly, there was no writing done, so that's not really applicable. I would have rather seen a two-part cartoon episode where Ironhide or Brawn make a heroic sacrifice to save their fellow Autobots.

(AHEM. Sorry. My Movie rage bubbles up from time to time. This list triggered it again!)

    Sadly, it seems that way.
