Also he jump-started our evolution, as well.

And this whole "who's more iconic" is just nonsense. It's a Hall Of fame. It's not about who your average Joe recognizes, it's about who deserves to be recognized.

While I'm still going to be voting for Soundwave when the time comes, I'd definitely call Dinobot a close second. Probably followed, then, by Shockwave, Grimlock, and Jazz in that order.

TFWiki has a good article on this, but the short answer is that G2 is the only line in the history of the franchise to be a total failure. Around this time Hasbro acquired boy's toy manufacturer Kenner. They kicked the Transformers line over to Kenner to see if those guys could "save" it, but there was a very real possibility that Transformers was not going to be continued in any form at this point.

Kenner did some market research, made some prototypes, and came up with Beast Wars. Transformers has not stopped making Hasbro money since then. It's difficult to overstate how important this was in the "real world."

Dinobot is the most popular BW character that is not directly based on a G1 character. Which is saying something, because only Primal and Megatron really fit in that category.

    We ( G1 fans ) aren't saying dinobot isn't worthy, it just that it the 1st HOF....and that shows how much these "elders" mean...BW haven't had a spin-off, a movie....no video game...
We all know soundwave got this lock up...HOF #2 is grimlock, hot rod, ultra magnus(punk),shockwave, jazz or dinobot....

I mean no disrespect for Beast Wars, but Soundwave, Jazz, and Grimlock are all easily more famous. That's not even an argument really. But I guess Dinobot has the appeal of being the cool badguy gone goodguy thing going on, and if this is really a democracy, he has a chance. I still hate his name- like calling Prime Truckbot or Megatron Gunbot.

Incorrect. Beast Wars had a video game on the original Playstation.

I'm actually surprised and happy to see Dinobot announced. I always wanted a full explanation as to why he has that name, even though it's not hard to guess. Now how's about some 2010 characters?!? I loved season 1 and 2, but Roddy P and Galvatron have some delightful issues that make for some of the most creative stories well..ever!

Seconded. As much as I hate to say it, I think Soundwave has the fifth spot locked, but I'm still voting for Dinobot.

If it was the other way around...if it was 4 bw figures and the last spot went to a G1 figure on the first ballot...wouldn't that be weird?

i do find dinobot to be overated as far as a hall of fame nomination goes. The other nominees have remained relativly prominant across the duration of the brand i.e they are conceptually the biggest names in the francise. Hall of fame suggests to me the most famous transformers of all time. Dinobot is a character limited to one (albeit popular) element of the brand. I also find the character to be incredibly cliched and whist fun for a while, became one of the aspects of beast wars i enjoyed the least.

I'm glad that people seem to have got what they wanted, but I'd really be suprised if dinobot makes it through.

Two of these statements are demonstrably false.

Why can't we even be good enough people to be happy for each other when others' favored characters get nominated?

EDIT: Also, can it be posted on the front page of the thread or something that these nominees were selected by a straight-up popular vote? This list of nominees tells us dick about Hasbro's priorities or favored characters, this is what we have told them. That's the reason why it is so interesting.

Seems I underestimated Hasbro's decision making. Thank you for not making this a G1 list. Glad to see this isn't all about nostalgia. Definitely has my vote

    It just doesn't fit....
