A lot of that made very little sense to me. I don't get how not advertising as much = MO' $MONEY$.

Yeah, I still do it.

But nothing about if you were disapointed or not too happy. At least Orci throws in something about how some of us might be happier the second go round.

The people that want to see a marketing push sooner are the ones that are definaley going to go to the movie when it comes out. We are the one that really will only become more excited. Every one else could care less that they arent showing any material they just go on with there daily lives. They could only beifit by showing stuff considering christmas and just to keep it in peoples minds. The only thing your doing is really annoying your primary fanbase, and letting the causual fan forget that they are even making a sequel.

Thats just my oppion though...

i know the reasons why, but i just find it funny that he feels he needs to grant permission

Marketing (and distributing) movies is incredibly expensive; on a modestly budgeted drama a full on media campaign can potentially cost more than the movie cost to make - which is what kills many a small independent production - no advertising, and not enough distribution to theatres.

Transformers has already proved to be a substantial hit. It has huge tie-in potential and sustained public recognition because of the continued popularity of the toy range and related products. It has a cartoon, and (however irregular) a comic series. In short, Paramount and Hasbro have no real need to begin a costly publicity run this far in advance.

Also, it seems highly unlikely that at this stage ILM would be anywhere near finalising the all important robot effect shots, which is what really excites the wider audience for the film. Closer to the release, Mr Bay, or whoever is employed to cut the trailer (often NOT the films director) will be able to pick out some of the more completed FX shots for use in advertising.

When the timing is right, Paramount will begin to spend the GDP of a small country that qualifies as a promotions budget and I'm sure we won't be able to turn on a TV or open a magazine without seeing Transformers. They'll be everywhere!
DISCLAIMER : I think that Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is easily the worst film I have seen in about 10 years...

My prediction: Were not going to get a trailer before botcon, a fan will ask in a Q&A session with bay why we havent seen a trailer, Alan Moore will then come on stage saying its because the movie was realesed 35 days ago.

Agreed!!! All the people that i've talked to HAD NO IDEA another TF movie was in the works!!! If they keep this up I don't think i'm going to be anywhere NEAR excited to go see it OR about getting the toys from the movie. This is what hollywood is anymore .... selfishness and greed. The last movie Nov/Dec of 2006 the teaser was out, it didn't give anything away but it had us all screaming for more. They need to throw us a little bone at least before we all starve to death!!!

QFT..

TF fans would know about the movie, but what about the casual moviegoers who aren't really TF fans?

Seriously, baaaaad move. At least throw out a teaser or something!
