Yeah, it's pricey but you get what you pay for. If you want a cheaply made toy with bad paint applications and poor plastic then stick with a ten dollar Universe figure but if you're tastes are more sophisticated and you love die-cast, this looks like it will hit the spot. www.primetoystore.com |

But I just find it really boring. Maybe it's because it's yet another Prime, maybe it's the clunky and fragmented vehicle mode, maybe it's just the fact that it looks like so many other Diaclone-inspired carbots.
The narrowing chest piece is the most interesting element, in my opinion. That's something different, and a clever way to handle the wideness of the hood in robot mode. But it's not enough to warrant a purchase.
Now if the line continues for a while, and produces a Tracks, Wheeljack or Jazz figure that could reasonably stand alongside Classics, THEN my ears will perk up again. | The scale is what turns me off first. The less-inspired character choices are next. |

That said, I would be willing to accept a plastic version of this with a new head as Universe Jazz.
(kinda doubt it's gonna happen though, as it would require a license.) How the Animated toy line REALLY came to an end |

.... it's a stretch.. I know.
I do dig these figs a ton though. I think they look surprisingly detailed considering the scale. |

The Universe classics, except for Ironhide's paint choice and Prowl/Silversteaks sticky paint, are full of pure win. And for the most part, the plastic doesn't feel cheap on any of my toys. My toys also were lucky enough not to have any of the joint problems. Even Galvatron stays together just fine.
Now, my opinion of these new Alternity figures is that while looking awesome, they have no place with any of the other lines...What is this line supposed to be besides two awesome bots, with excellent Alt modes, yet bad choices in characters? I'm sorry, but if it wasn't for the fact that it was Prime and Megatron I would throw quite a bit of cash at these...because I like diecast as well as plastic...they both have their figurative strengths. But putting on a Prime head that looks so hard to remove just kills it for me. Prime to me is a truck, while Megatron should at least always be some kind of military vehicle/weapon. Making the two most iconic transformers as dinky little deluxe sized cars seems like a bad idea to me. I just don't know what Takara was planning with this line besides getting top dollar for producing a couple molds, that are overpriced for their size.
However, in the end, if they drop the price at some point I'll probably pick them up...because besides bad character choice, and the size...Prime does look quite awesome(even while not looking like Prime except the head) and will probably have a clever transformation process.
Remember to do it people: Start breathing...or Start dieing. |
