I want this set so bad, I just can't see my way into buying it. Not at those prices, at least. |

I've said it before and i'll say it again, no re-paint, re-mold or prototype will ever beet the pinks and aqua blue of the original G1 release. |

At least they went for a palette that's almost as crazy as the original, y'know?
Those "japanese voice actresses" Shadowstich mentions know what they're doin'. |

It's the same reason Action Masters Thundercracker and most of G2 looks so godawful, and yet Bumblebee always looks good. Take a good look at your Transformers -- the ones that look the best are ALWAYS the ones with palettes in equilibrium: neutral colors (black, white, grey, beige) balanced by usually two colors (or an analogous range,) and possibly a third color in small accents that don't overpower or interfere with the overall color scheme.
You combine neutrals in balance with any more than two color ranges and things start to get tricky. Haphazardly slap together black AND white AND blue AND yellow AND purple AND orange and the end result is a chromatic nightmare.
I'm sorry, but IMHO the OTFCC Seacons look like either some kind of test shot/knockoff, or one of those kid's coloring contest lucky draws. If you happen to like 'em, more power to you. I still prefer the G1 Seacon and God Neptune color schemes. Quote:

It was for the most part an analogous purple-blue-green color scheme with some tonal variation to add visual interest; all cool colors designed to evoke aquatic themes. If you look at Piranacon, only Overbite's dark purple bits and Seawing's neutral grey stand out especially, but they still adhere to the general palette so it's not too bad.
Sure it was a little strange to make a boy's toy pink and purple, but come on -- it was the 80's. |
