I think this will be a great move for GI Joe.

But let's be honest...Transformers has had death ever since 1986. Gruesome awful deaths.

This is AWESOME news! Now if we could get rid of Animated and have a show like this it would be a dream come true.....Or at the very least get rid of Animated and make a new show that is slightly more geared toward a less campy side it would be great. Can't wait to watch it.

Another step in Hasbro's brillant move not to put all their eggs in one basket. Seems like all the brands are offering different things because someone got really smart and figured out everyone doesn't like the same things. Instead of GI Joe only as a kids brand they are going to attempt something for the adult part of the branding that would turn their nose up at Sigma Six. Plus being short means less load time to get the fans with slower internet connections.

If we look at how Hasbro will try something new with one brand and then try it later with another brand there seems like a good chance at something like this for Transformers.

We've got Animated aimed at the kids market, live action franchise aimed at teens, so to open up a new front for the adult segment of the hobby doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. Will be cool to have yet another choice to help cover all the diverse tastes out there.

Ummm. yeah. Hasbro would never rest one of their top five childrens franchises on the strength of a cartoon aimed away from the target demographic. Animated is here to stay, thank goodness.

I mean, cmon, toys are aimed at kids. Therefore, given the option between A)kids show and B) adult themed show, if Hasbro has to pick one, the kids win. I'm hoping, due to the popularity of animated, that Hasbro sees a chance to market outside their target demographic, to teens (and thus adults). If animated loses popularity, Hasbro will ramp up efforts to ages 5-12, and put adult themed TF on the back burner. So honestly, animated haters should root for the success of said show, because it success increases the chance we get what we want.

Whoa, dude get a grip! Nobody is saying HARDCORE. Just more mature than what we're getting right now.

I'm not talking about blood and guts, that would be more rated R.

This is talking PG-13. As the movie was PG-13 and had a toyline aimed at kids.

Lulz! Not likely. What we might get is a few DTV universe movies. Where as Animated will go strong on saturday mornings for the kids.

    That sounds pretty dope.
5 minutes here, 5 minutes there...
At the end, we'll prolly see an hour long DVD collection.

I'd absolutely LOVE to see a retcon of G1 Season 3 using Classics (2.0) designs.
Something that picks up right where TF:TM left off... but goes the RIGHT way.

Actually I think something for Transformers is already in the works, gijoe is just the first from what I gather, and it doesn't seem like it will be the only brand going this route.

I've heard quality is up there with Animatrix, a fellow tanker described it as up there with Ghost in the Shell. Next year is the 25th Anniversary of TF so a PG-13 TF series told in the same format would not be surprising.

In fact, expect it. The cartoon for Hasbro is part of a long term plan, and I don't think its limited just to gijoe, it sounds like its planned for other brands too.

    We did sorta. Beast Wars.

The reason it wasn't PG-13 is because it was robots getting stabbed, burned, impaled, dismembered, killed, etc. and it had cartoony bits at times.

Not to mention they didn't use our profanity.

I dunno. When I was 6-12, I thought the lasers and magical parachutes in the Joe toon were lame. That's why I always preferred the comic's more serious bent, what with the bullets, actual threats, disfigurements and major character deaths.

    PG-13 vilent GI:Joe?
    Bout freakin' time!

But I keep reading - "will Transformers get this treatment? Why can't Transformers be like this?"

Um- it did- back in 2007 and coming in 2009 with director Michael Bay.

    About time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About fucking time those board members decided to make GIjoe more realistic. I mean what bugged me about the old series was that no one died , they just parachuted out of jets and cars and what not. Transformers will probably get treatment like that next and my little pony .

I dunno what to think about this. On one hand I agree with nkelsch that the deep dark stuff usually takes the fun out of it and makes it convoluted and boring, so I wouldn't want that for Transformers.

On the other hand, I am a big fan of The Unit, which is essentially a live action GI Joe show sans corporate terrorist enemy. I'm certainly willing to give it a chance.

Just please for the love of God don't make Beachhead sound like some blonde surfer just because his name is Beachhead. f'n ******s.
