Well, I guess all of that worry over Australian customs from way on at the beginning of the Megacraze wasn't just smoke after all. 50 MP-05 Masterpiece Megatrons (Megatron? Masterpieces? Megatrons?) were seized by Australian customs.

Also here's a link to the Australian Customs page on MP-05. Thanks to llamatron.

A replica Walther P38? WTF, the original Megatron was 1:1 scale. Last time I checked 38 caliber pistols aren't as big as MP05.

Original Megatron was smaller than 1:1 scale. Maybe about 2/3 or 3/4 scale.

But yes... MP-05 is comically large.

So....how would collectors go about getting "permission" to import? Just silly, IMO.

Well if theyare so silly that they do things like this I suppose that one would have to bribe the "local/ territory police" :p

    tariff

Ah, I am sure, if you filled out all the proper forms and paid a healthy tariff fee to the government they would dance that Megatron straight to your house.

Some states in Australia have more strict laws than others. It may not necessarily apply to every territory. IIRC, the original Megatron was prohibited in some areas of Australia as far back as '85.

    Thanks for that.

Yeah saw this over the news...which is kinda surprising...I wonder, if just sending the toy in robot mode without the box would be able to pass through the Australia customs? Or if an Australia simply packed Megatron in robot in his luggage?

That's my question, LigerPrime. I am going to find out in August, when I get my Encore Megs. It's to be shipped to my brother's place to be taken out of the box and transformed. If my bro doesn't break the toy in the process he's going to ship it to me here.

Well, my brother doesn't know about this yet, but I am going to ask really nicely.

Oh man, your brother really have to be careful because decades ago one of my school mates broke my G1 Megs while transforming him!

Im in perth and i got mine from ebay sent here no worries. I think in perth they are seen as toys whilst over east they are seen as replica pistols and hence a "dangerous weapon".

Seems to maybe become and australian grail.

Queensland's police can still be pretty damned corrupt, so you could prolly get the thing imported for a slab of XXXX or something.

That said, customs in Qld are a completely different kettle of fish. My local comic store has had numerous shipments delayed because a toy included with the shipment states "REPLICA WEAPON!" on the packaging.

Ofcourse the real kick in the arse is that the importers here are now charging around $200 for him. I know a few stores in Vic and NSW that have imported it in bulk with no troubles. Another couple in WA are selling it too but won't ship to NSW or Vic.

So it's ok to buy it here but not import it? Good one Feds.

That sucks. I hope those folks get their money back or get their Megatron. I'm glad I got mine with the "permanant" red plug on the end when I did.

Over one toy? I'd argue that otherwise we have it pretty good.

My goodness, it ships in robot mode! The only way to mistake it is to only look at the pictures of the gun on the box... geez. If you actually tried to do something "bad" with the gun mode, no one would take you seriously and just punch you in the face.

Not to mention it TOTALLY looks plastic. :banghead:
