One day I'll try shipping MP-05 in gun mode in a transparent plastic box.

    MP-5s released by Australian Customs

An Australian that I've been in contact with says that he received his seized MP-5 Megatrons (2 of them) today, after obtaining a police import clearance. He said it took some time but was basically painless, as the police and Customs were helpful and had a chuckle about it and weren't like, "we caught you, you evildoer". They've got their rules they have to enforce, but it seems that they're well aware that it's not an actual weapon; that it's a toy/collector's piece that's fallen into an unfortunate classification.

There's probably been a few glitches as the process for getting them cleared gets sorted out, but it seems they're not all destined for an incincerator or a big X Files-type secure warehouse never to be seen again.

So if you're an Australian who wants an MP-5, it seems like you can have it; you just have to jump a couple of hurdles before he gets to you. Which the media have no doubt neglected to mention, as it's more sensational to say, (Maude Flanders-style) "Imitation guns are being imported! Won't someone please think of the children?!"

Interesting. Can you tell us which state he is in and if he can be contacted? The closest my group has come is being told we will need a collectors permit which consists of :

    From OzFormers:

    Which is an absolute pain.

Several members have spent the last week petitioning and writing to members of local and federal members of parliment and the Firearms authorities regarding this as a final decision is due within the next week. But no board member has recieved an official response yet.
