RUMOR: Don't worry about an orange cap on MP-Megatron anymore...

...TakaraTomy is going to do it themselves.

Quote:
Ryan has met and spoken with a Distributor who lives in Japan, but was here in Ney York enjoying Toyfair 07. They got into a discussion about a whole bunch of different Transformers being release from Takara such as the Kiss Players. But one figure that came up was MP-05 Megatron. According to the distributor, Takara-Tomy will be placing the orange caps on themselves at the factory for a special release of MP-05's to go to US distributors so they can pass customs. Now this is just a rumor and as of right now should be taken with a grain of salt as this is the first and only source who has suggested this.

Here are some relevant news to look back at.

Hobby Link Japan to add safety tip
BBTS to Carry Modified MP-05 Megatron.

And below is the actual toy laws for the US:

§ 1150.2 Prohibitions. No person shall manufacture, enter into commerce, ship, transport, or receive any toy, look-alike, or imitation firearm (‘‘device’’) covered by this part as set forth in § 1150.1 of this part unless such device contains, or has affixed to it, one of the markings set forth in § 1150.3 of this part.

§ 1150.3 Approved markings. The following markings are approved by the Secretary of Commerce: (a) A blaze orange (Federal Standard 595a, February, 1987, color number 12199, issued by the General Services Administration) or orange color brighter than that specified by the federal standard color number, solid plug permanently affixed to the muzzle end of the barrel as an integral part of the entire device and recessed no more than 6 millimeters from the muzzle end of the barrel.

(b) A blaze orange (Federal Standard 595a, February, 1987, color number 12199, issued by the General Services Administration) or orange color brighter than that specified by the Federal Standard color number, marking permanently affixed to the exterior surface of the barrel, covering the circumference of the barrel from the muzzle end for a depth of at least 6 millimeters.

EDIT: Like the post says, it's just a rumor, but keep it in mind. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be true.

Takara doing a special version of MP-05 for the overseas market? Consider my breath not held in the slightest.

Why would someone order the orange cap version when it'll be equally easy to import the proper version?

Perhaps they're concerned with their overseas market after all? Though it would probably be for the closer asian countries, where gunlaws could be similiar to those in the US (I don't think they care for the US that much).

If this is true, it's unprecedented. It's always assumed Takara paid almost no attention to the western market because Hasbro pwns all of us. But actually catering to the laws of a single country, I've never heard of that. It shows either they acknowledge a significant market for their Masterpiece products, or they are hurting so bad in their market that reaching out seems like a good idea.

I honestly can't see why they wouldn't do this. Then again, this is the group that colored their MP Starscream seafoam green. I have no problem at all with them adding an orange cap, it will simply suffer the same fate as the cap(s) on Classic Megs: cut off and thrown into the trash.
