They do seem rather spikey. I expect the final toy products to be a lot more rounded out. Scorponok looks like he can do serious damage to the foot of an unsuspecting parent.

Expanding my thoughts after looking at them more...

Prime looks... OK. Not perfect, he still has that "too primitive earth-built robot" aesthetic that bothers me with Bumblebee, but accepting that flaw he's otherwise alright. It's not an aesthetic I inherently love, and not the greatest choice for a TF film, IMO, but *within* that aesthetic it does successfully say Optimus Prime (as opposed to the strange abe-creature playing Starscream).

Blackout looks cool, more TF-like, but again in the movie design, rather "fragile". One of the things about classic TF designs is they LOOK like armored and durable warriors whove been fighting for centuries. These, esp. Blackout here, spindly, largely unarmored and with wires and exposed machinery everywhere, look like they'd get mutilated and busted up *really* easily in combat. On the other hand, his toy looks pretty darn cool to me. Hasbro reighned in the movie design a bit and just that little shift made a really awesome toy that FITS the classic cool TF aesthetic while at the same time representing the movie character fairly well. I want one :)

Starscream... Well, I HATE it. It doesn't look like a Transformer, and it doesn't look ANYTHING like Starscream should. I'm fine with it not being just like G1, that's fine, but from what they've said they're clearly going for the G1 character with his portrayle and this look (aside from being rather crappy and ugly in general IMO) is really rather inapropriate for that character. Starscream needs to be sleek and beautiful and vain, not bulky, but-ugly and animal-like. Ugh. Just REALLY crappy. Especially the head. I'd pay Hasbro money if they'd take this one back to the drawing board. Not likely to happen, I know. But I can't believe they went THIS wrong on a fan favorite. I think all the folks who remember TFs from being kids are going to particularly dislike this as Screamer was VERY memorable and this doesn't even suggest the character they remember fondly.

As for Scorponok? eh... not bad not stunning. Has some potential I guess, but likely will just be a drone. I have to wonder what it's "second mode" will be.

    That makes little sense.

People dumping their old toys(the ones they like) because they've seen some prototype pictures of new toys(that they do not yet own), that they do not like?

easy once these things comeout there will be less people buying them so less of a chance to sell them. Sell them now while people are still buying. Cause if this is the future of tfs its all downhill from here

    That still makes no sense.

You're saying the entire tf market is going to drop because of the movie line?

    I really, really, doubt it.

Plus, you don't know that people won't buy the movie toys. After all, us tranformer collectors make up a small percentage of TF sales. As stated by hasbro's Aaron Archer, it's roughly 10% to 20%.

And don't forget, according to some(supposedly it's been quoted at Botcon 2005), the TF movie line is going to be a small line(toy wise). There's also many other lines that will be on the shelves at the same time: alts, titaniums, classics, attacktix, and probably a few more(Transformers Unleashed).

Wow, they copied the Mini Cooper Robot. The robot modes asolultely suck. These are not transformers, it's just another movie about robots.

These all look awsome. Scorpy looks fragile, as if something would fall on him, he would shatter. Screamer looks like he could be a pre-earth Waspy, I like it. Cant wait to see more.

Well, I'll be dipped, it IS Transtech/Beast Machines returned!

If this is the trend for the next year or so, I'll be a happy camper at least

Ok, after taking some time to let the images sink in, I like everything I see except 'Screamer.

As others have already mentioned, the design is awesome, but in no way aestheticaly does it reflect what I usually think of the as SS--smooth, suave, conceited, and a fast 'Con. IMHO, this design can work more as an outright symbolic manifestation of what SS truly represents deep down his spark core (E.g. treachery, cruelty, ugly jealousy), but frankly this design seems to emphasize more on brute firepower rather than guile and speed, and as a result takes away from his traditional charming appearance belying his true intentions.

Maybe, he'll get slagged by Megs in the movie, to be later reconstructed into something either similar to his G1 incarnation or that Transtech prototype posted awhile ago.

Otherwise, I can totally digging the Transtech influences.

Why is it a no go for the decepticons to resemble Humanoids? Most if not all of the face designs for the decepticons will all be very insect like. Starscream is a travesty, look at the squaty legs and the way the body resembles the stature of a simian. Blackout atleast has three or four segmented fingers, poor starscream has 20-mm cannons for hands.

Blackout looks just awesome, and Scorponok looks like the best mechanical scorpion ever.

Starscream just looks wrong. Not bad as a different TF, but not really Starscream.

Prime... I still dislike the flames. It just doesn't fit the personality. It's like having Leisure Suit Obi-Wan Kenobi.

I'm not really digging the style designs - lots of detail, little personality. Hopefully that will change with the animation. I remember strongly disliking the BB Batmobile until I actually saw it in action.

As if that ever had a chance. When was the last time movie toys came out less than a month before release? Heck, S-M 2 toys were out a full quarter before the film.

It *IS* possible to dislike these designs without it being a sad change-phobia you know. People can just honestly think the designs are bad.

I think Starscream's design is bad. It's ugly. It's innapropriate for the character. It looks rather stupid, and primitive and brutish.

I think Blackout on the other hand looks decent, fairly cool although a bit too-fragile for a warrior robot-mode and a great looking toy.

Would I rather they were more G1 ish? A little, yes. NOT because I'm stuck on G1 or afraid of change but because 1) I think G1 style giant robots look cool. and 2) I think it fits the concept of super-advanced alien warriors better. Classic style TFs look durable and super-advanced. These look rather fragile and fairly mundane technologically.

    I like em.

Starscream- If he had a different face/head, it would be better. Also, theres gotta be a way to make him stand straight (looks to much like a beast character) and put the toes together for feet.
Prime-gonna take some getting used to, but it's Prime.
Scorpy- Cool so far. I think the scorpion design is a bit to literal, but still looks good.
Blackout-just plain badass. Can't wait for him.

If that were the case, Prime wouldn't have his flames, and Blackout probably wouldn't have his blades.
