If I really wanted a Unicron, I may just go ahead with the Arms Micron Unicron

Since I never got one as a kid and was only just getting back into things the last time we had a chance at him, I'd love to get Unicron on this go around. So this is pretty awesome.

But the prospective price is still quite the deterrent...

If I ever feel the need to get a Unicron, he will have to be twice the size of my Generations Metroplex.

Probably will be the Supreme Energon mold with translucent plastic. Hasbro likes to have their Platinum Editions with translucent plastics parts with no paint.

To make it so much worth it, they should remold something to have space for a speaker and a Voice Chip with Orson Welles Voice Clips, like "I, Am Unicron" and such....

Great to see another one coming out but that price is crazy. I'm happy with my 25th Anniversary one.

As long as this does in fact keep the minicon, I'll be going after it at some point (like, when it starts getting discounted). If the minicon somehow gets left out (not impossible, I suppose, given they didn't throw in Nightstick with the Cyclonus/Scourge set), I'm out.

I own all three iterations of that mold. It's ok, but you may as well wait for this one to go on sale (and at the current price, I'm sure it will) or track down some other version of the Armada mold for a decent price.

I saw the price on TFSource.

I am NOT willing to pay $170 for a toy like that.

Unfortunately Platinum doesn't remould shit. They just rerelease the toys with either minimal changes or horrible ones.

    Whoops. I forgot about those.

That aside though, I'm totally cool with paying $100 for the Voyagers and the prices on the other sets, but $170 for Unicron? COME ON!

And seriously, you can't tell me that throwing transparent plastic randomly onto Cyclonus and the Sweeps was a good idea. Platinum has done some fantastic releases like the YOTH Prime, but recently they're really slipping.

You see sir thats an opinion. But your also wrong, they gave Perceptor new slides and brought over a new head for one of the Junkions. One of the reasons these sets are so expensive is because not only are they using older molds which were designed to fit a different budget of their time and cost more to produce, but they also aren't going to be on every shelf selling like deluxes and voyagers are. So onto of having an alreqdy expensive figure your going to have to secure some way of making profit. So an inflated price tag helps assure that onto of the regular price tag.
Another thing to note is that Hasbro isn't the one always deciding these prices. They sell them to retailers, who in turn sell them for an inflated price to make their own profit. If word on the street is that you can sell your Unicron for $170 everyone else is going to as well. Thats just bussiness.

When Cyclonus came out Deluxes were about $12 right? The figure most likely cost about $6-7 to produce, then was sold for about $12. Same goes for the sweeps.
Thats around $36. But those figures were designed with an entirely sifferent budget in mind. I'd say a TR deluxe most likely costs about $10 to produce, and it's designed to keep the cost down.
So how much would 3 $8 deluxes cost to make today, plus the inflated price for a boxset they know they can't make profit off it by selling sheer numbers, plus the retailers own inflation. Thats alos exclusing the possibilty of them having make new or restor ethe molds for these.

Granted I've give you that they are overcharging, but not a smuch as you'd think.
Unicron does cross a line, but he could have new molding or will find a new price very quickly.

It's clearly (pun not intended) meant to represent the reformatting scene from the film, just like that ehobby set from a few years ago.

I would love for this to be the original G1 toy.
