Wonder if it's just going to be the same as the UK or Madman releases.

Because no movie poster/DVD cover has ever depicted characters that didn't or couldn't have appeared on-screen at the same time, right?

Probably all nice and dandy, but...... imagine if instead of this.....they'd actually come up with a new G1 animated movie.

    ....sigh.....

They've confirmed it is going to be a new transfer from original 35mm prints. (Brian Ward of Shout tweeted a picture of a film canister.)

Great news about a BR release, but man, that is some terrible cover art. Hopefully it's just placeholder imagery until something with actual effort put into it is used instead.

While it'd be nice to have a not-ugly cover, who cares really? It's going to go on my shelf with only the spine visible. I'm going to stare at the moving pictures, not the cover!

I still have this only on VHS, so it'll be nice to upgrade. Despite its horrendous flaws, this movie's got some cool stuff in it and some nice animation I'd like to see in higher quality.

Hopefully this comes with that, which I still to this day have never seen.

Considering I've never seen that before, I gotta assume that's origina artwork specifically done for this release...

You're not. I'm sure Livio's a great guy and his art isn't horrible, but seriously it's kind of, like, bothering me that when there's so many astounding artists out there who would jump at the opportunity to do this cover for a movie that's so beloved (even if not by me) that this is the art they went with? Honestly the last DVD's cover art was better than this. Rodimus looks fucking bored here, and the entire composition and posing chosen is probably what's putting him to sleep. Like that pose he's in is so bland.

Like, strip this down to just the lineart, and it would look downright amateurish. And this is coming from a real amateur. Like Optimus' thigh or arm aren't even real rectangles. Rodimus' wings aren't symmetrical. The Sweeps are all the same drawing just copy/pasted. Were it not for the light effect, the entire background most of the characters are on is just solid blue. And not even a space-y blue.

Like I don't want to pick on him, but I don't know why this bugs me so much, but it's really shocking to me that this is the art they're using. Good artists aren't hard to find. And beyond that, really good cover art for this movie already exists.

TBF, that's probably the most forgivable aspect. That can just be chalked up to stylistic depiction, much in the way Optimus is holding the Matrix by the handles, something he never does in the movie.

Lots of people, not the least of which anyone who appreciates good art.

With that logic no movie need any sort of cover art. Presentation is important, too.

I have the region free bluray, but having it cleaned up and properly remastered is very exciting.

Nice! Now remaster the complete series from their original tapes (if they're ever to be found in a complete state) while they're at it ;)

Oh I'm getting this and will remind myself about the horror I witnessed as some of my favorite characters were axed before my little eyes and that stupid kid interfered during the boss fight. I was so petty about it I even kept Hot Rod and Rodimus in their boxes and I continue to have my display that way. Should probably let that go.
