Rounding out our pics of Combiner Wars Legends Wave 5, we have a look at the sinister cyclopian Decepticon, Shockwave! This Decepticon is one of the best toys to be made in this size class, and a great update of the original Shockwave!

Shockwave's robot mode is the star of the show, here. Unencumbered by extraneous vehicle parts, the robot is plain solid, and a nice little action figure. He's got a great range of poseability - some of the best in the size class - and the looks are on-point with what you'd expect for Shockwave. He transforms into a "spaceship", with a flip down peg for his gun mode. Really, the spaceship mode is a concession to give Shockwave a mode that does not depend on another toy to work, and the gun mode is arguably the real alternate mode. Sadly, the peg for the gun mode is actually obstructed by a square block - most toys hands simply will not fit the 5mm peg because this block gets in the way. Said block is there to steady the gun in the hands of a Combiner, so it's got a purpose - it's just a bit of a poor design choice that severely limits what you can do with that gun mode.

Gun mode flaws aside, Shockwave is awesome, and well worth a look. Check out our gallery to see if you agree with our thoughts:

Brilliant design at the scale -- it's hard to even believe it's in the same wave as Buzzsaw!

I'd love a voyager that had basically this same design. (With the improvements possible at that size)

Might want to add that straight up removing the square peg won't help as much as you may think. While it may allow you to place it in the hands of any other transformer, the cylindrical peg is too small to fit securely in anything, it's not genuine 5mm.

Perfect Effect is including an adapter with there second CW Bruticus set (PC-10) so that Shockwave has a proper handle to be held by a wider variety of bots.

Well, I haven't seen it anywhere, had to order mine.

Might have to get another if PE's attachment requires the square peg, and probably does.

Oh man, those two shots of him walking with his hands folded behind his back are sublime. That totally makes him look like an evil genius. Nice posing and pictures!

I made my own. I wrapped a piece of paper around the handle. Now Devastator holds him fine ;)

Can Bruticus hold him? That's the only reason I'd pick him up

It looks like a great little figure. My only nit-pick is I'd prefer the neck area to be purple instead of grey.

I wish the Masterpiece Shockwave took cues from this and didn't have pull off pieces.

Bruticus totally can! I included pics of that option in my Bruticus shoot a while back:

Got him the day he came out in sydney. The next day he was gone.

They restocked him later. He lasted two days on shelves.

Meanwhile, David Jones is saying 'we don't sell Transformers anymore because they just don't sell'.

Yeah...have you done ANY research into the market?

He only works well with the combiner wars hand/feet. He can be held with the Perfect Effect hands but not very securely or straight, hence the attachment coming out with PC-10. If anyone doesn't want the backpack extension for him, I'll buy it or if someone would make a replacement handle is Shapeways it would be a big seller.

I saw a Shapeways attachment on Butterfly Effect Photography, but as to where and when it'll be available I have no clue.

Another stellar addition to a (usually) stellar line of figures.
