We're on to the third of our galleries of Combiner Wars Legends Wave 5, and it's only logical to now put the focus on Chop Shop! This post has been stolen by this kleptomaniac Insecticon who just can't resist stealing anything that is not nailed down - and several things that are!

Chop Shop is a remolded version of the 2014 release Generations Skrapnel, featuring a new head. While the original Chop Shop and Shrapnel were two different toys, both were stag beetles, so this reuse makes a lot of sense, and the new head - together with the distinct and vibrant colors - makes Chop Shop his own 'bot. Like the Skrapnel toy he is remolded from, he features decent articulation and superb balance, and is fun to transform between both modes. The deco is not 1-1 the original toy's deco, but has had an adaption to fit the contours of the new mold, which helps to break up what would otherwise be a very monochromatic deco. My one complaint is Chop Shop lacks a gun, but he can easily filch one from another Transformer. He's a master thief, after all.

Its cool but would rather have seen legends kickback to round out the original insecticons.

 

At Botcon 2014, Hasbro said they were committed to finishing sets of classic characters. I'd not be at all surprised if Kickback were planned for a future Legends assortment.

Personally, I'm curious to see if we eventually get Bombshell modded into Barrage.

Chop Shop from Shrapnel was a very clever idea.

I can't wait to pick him up.

 

Wish HasTak wasn't so obsessed with getting mileage out of the molds. Retooled mandibles would have really rounded this figure out.

 

i think he turned out great ~ new mandibles would have been icing on the cake, but his deco + new head makes him ALMOST look like a different mold.

i'm also shocked at how small the original was, i had it in my head that the Deluxe Insecticons were closer to "Deluxe" scale ~ the OG beetle is barely any bigger!

 

i just wish we got kickback then they started the retools for the B team of insecticons.

it's a good figure but i need the final guy of the original team.

i know that....they've been saying he's coming since CW was revealed and honestly i believe it...i would just rather he come first THEN they bring on chop shop and the others. not do chop shop then barrage THEN kickback followed by venom or ransack....

they should do the original team then the other team.

 

Didn't both the regular and deluxe sets come out in '85, so neither is original? I think the toy bios even consider them one team (with Venom as leader). Granted, the deluxes were excluded from the cartoon and comic.

Personally I think the deluxe insecticons need more love!  

 

Thing is, the assortment has two new molds already. I can't claim to understand how Hasbro works these things, but I suspect money might be involved as to why Chop Shop came right now.

As long as they happen in the end though, right?

Both sets were 1985, yeah. I can't say as I know what the release dates of the two sets were, though. Toy bios are in our resources section if you want to check them out

oh sure, just making sure everyone had heard since it was coming up multiple times! i can't believe it's gonna be, what over nearly 4 years to get the whole team? Hopefully TT or Hasbro do a box set with matched colors and Chrome bits at some point, i'd double dip on that!!!

Also, i hope Kickback doesn't end up Hamstrung by some crappy Titanmaster gimmick that is making all the new Legends look awful. (can't believe that Buzzsaw made it off the drawing board, much less into stores, and Stripes/Ravage is even worse!)

 

The last few new mold Legends toys to be done were Bombshell, Powerglide, Groove, Buzzsaw and Shockwave. None of which should have been replaced by a new mold Kickback. And no, they can't replace a repaint with a completely new mold.

 

Chop Shop is a nice looking figure and a good hold over till Kickback comes out. Hopefully then they can retool Bombshell into Barrage & Kickback into Ransack. Plus I'm now using FOC Brawl's gun as his and he looks better.

 

where is that golden disk from? is that the Unicron set from way back when?

 

I will definitely be getting this guy and displaying him with the extra accessories pile on my shelf. They have been waiting just for him.

 

Shockwave definitely should have been replaced with kickback!! Bruticus doesnt need a Shockwave gun. Legends shockwave is ok but come on. . I'll have FT Kickback long before hasbro decides to accommodate all of our needs.
