If Transformers 5 turns out bad, I'm not going to be hyped but for now, I'm hyped and I'm readying myself.

This is the single dumbest thing Hasbro's ever done with this franchise. Hopelessly optimistic plans far out of tune with the scale of a project this franchise has ever proven it is capable of handling (don't believe me? Just look at how big a failure aligned was in being the new catch-all franchise that would encompas several new continuities, that Jagex game that never saw the light of day, and how Unit E was a big fat pile of nothing).

It's ironic how the movies, originally a landmark move in reinventing the franchise, have decayed into being the main reason why the franchise will never reinvent itself again. What this idiotic confirmation has done is put the entire weight of the success of this franchise for the next decade purely on the shoulders of only Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. Anybody else with name recognition is long since dead except Megatron who is just going to die then come back every other film as he's done TWICE thus far.

Hasbro's putting all their eggs into the basket that is the movie franchise...and unless somebody gets their shit together and actually makes the movies be good, TRANSFORMER focused films that don't involve pointless human plot points or noticeably lazy editing, I'll be amazed if the whole franchise doesn't tank by the end of the decade.

Bear in mind this is just the "main" series, not counting spinoffs and prequels, because Hasbro smells dat Marvel and Star Wars money.

The point you bring up reminds me of how DC basically spent the better part of 25 years only promoting Superman and Batman, and now that they have to make an entire movie universe, they've realized, hey, time to give a shit about the B-listers who are gonna be in our big budget films.

All this Disney stuff is crazy. This is like Kurt Russle's ten year contract or all the Pirates of the Carribean movies they planned. All you can do is hope Someone pulls a George miller.

As much as I love the movies (and I do...) I'm surprised Back to the Future Part II didn't put Transformers 19 instead of Jaws 19.

If I see them in theaters, it'll just be for the action. I'm not going for plot, character development, etc. I went into the theaters for AOE with no expectations and kinda enjoyed it. When I rewatched it at home WITH expectations, I was severely disappointed. These movies are just summer action blockbusters to go see for the hell of it. They're not meant to be picked apart like some centuries-old piece of literature that's drier than Seth Macfarlane's sense of humor (see what I did there?).

You know, I'm excited, I really am.

But goddamn this live action series could have been so special. It could have been a universe, not on the same level as Star Wars, but similar.

I'm not purposely trying to rain on anyone's parade, but we know what we're going to get with these films ... and it could have been so much more

It's a light sprinkle so far. Good luck with that.

This man gets it. They have flaws, yes. But I don't watch movies expecting masterpieces of writing. I just want my action and entertainment, goddammit!

    Exactly.

Do you know why "Hope" was among all those nasty things inside Pandora's Box?

Jaws is also a great example of how riding a successful franchise for all its worth only drives it straight into the ground so irredeemably that the franchise was forever ruined.

And that's where I foresee this decade-long plan of endless sequels crashing and burning the hardest - all they ARE in essence is nothing but summer blockbuster spectacles meant only to entertain for a few hours and then utterly forgotten. In 2007, what Transformers did was relatively revolutionary and unique, but now? It's almost commonplace these days. None of the films were written at all with sequels in mind except AoE but just barely (seriously, the Creators are the most ill-defined presence in any film ever. Fucking Galactus the Space Cloud from Silver Surfer was better just because the film at least visually defined he was a sentient space cloud, dumb as it was) and the only thing preventing somebody from seamlessly watching TF1 then skipping right to DOTM without any plot inconsistency problems is Megatron not being dead (the Matrix being in Prime's possession suddenly is easily explained by the fact almost every other Optimus Prime in this franchise starts with it already in their possession). Without a solid foundation, the films simply will not hold up long enough for the franchise to not just collapse in on itself.

    I´m torn on this..

On one side, it seems a a bit of overflown of movie material and such as Autobot Burnout said.

On the other hand, the impotent gnashing of teeth of many people will be glorious!

Man, this sounds like Star Wars. Wanna bet that after all is said and done, they'll release a Blu-Ray set of "Transformers: The Complete Saga"?

The first movie showed promise, and if they'd kept to that, it'd have been passable at the worst.

They've adopted the "throw dozens of characters into the mix without giving them proper personalities or backgrounds" the Unicron Trilogy suffered for, and that makes me sad.
