This was in the past. As far as we know today, there is no collaboration. Just look at how incredibly far behind Hasbro is on releases. As far as we know, Grimlock was the last real collaboration. Hasbro isn't going to collaborate on figures like Sideswipe that they won't even release.

 

HTS actually isn't related directly to Hasbro, so no, Hasbro probably isn't influenced at all by how easily HTS sells anything. A lot of people liked the set itself, but that price tag for the collector's box scared a lot of them away, too. The Platinum set should be a bit cheaper, and will have new molding to reel in maybe a few who already bought the SDCC version.

 

Many dealers also got burned on Fort Max due to QC problems and lost some money on him. After receiving complaints and hundreds of returned figures due to manufacturer errors, TakaraTOMY is more likely gun-shy at trying a large scale robot like that again from an older mold.

For Hasbro, Trypticon is probably a toe-dip in the pool to see how a larger reissue would fare in the American market. With so many begging for a Trypticon that isn't scheduled for Generations yet, that one would seem to be a perfect fit. Hopefully the QC holds up. So far, I haven't heard any horror stories like Fortress Maximus.

Interesting, why was Snarl's amor changed from gold to silver?

 

Well they tried with Strafe, he has a Swoop-y crest on his head, but it's techno-style and not outright fake kibble. Probably the best way to go with that.

 

All chrome starts out silver, they've just left off the clear paint that makes it gold.

Chances are, budgeting for the new heads meant dropping some of the paint ops and tampographs on all the figures. All the detailing based on the G1 toy stickers looks to be absent too.

They went above and beyond to get the accurate heads in, but then dropped the ball on the iconic colors.

Dont know why the review wasnt newsed. You get some pretty great shots of the new heads.

 

Those were the best part of the SDCC set. I guess I can always do headswaps with that set, but it means I'm likely not getting rid of it to offset the cost of this set.

 

Is it weird to say these faces look a little feminine looking.

 

I want to like these because I want to get a full set of CHUG Dinobots for a decent price. But the AoE Dinobot molds with the pointy-toed elf shoes and just general not-G1-ish look? No thanks. I think I'll wait until I win the lottery and can afford the Fansproject Lost Exo Realm stuff.

Meh. The only heads that really look good are Slag and Snarl.

 

I guess at least they completely failed on Snarl's coloration here, essentially ruining the entire set.

 

No, but the Dino modes are vaguely reminiscent of those awful IDW Dinobot designs (literally the only redesigns IDW have done which I dislike).

So I can kind of view them as those?

To be honest, I quite like the look of these. The paint and new heads do a huge job of improving them for me and so I will be picking up this set
