Not quite sure how to feel about the head yet. I do wish the gun was red, to reference Lio Convoy's toy color spring-loaded guns. (I also briefly wondered how this might look in the colors of Lio's pre-lion mode colors, but that wouldn't be dramatically different from the usual Optimus/Orion color scheme anyways.)
Head doesn't look like Lio Convoy. Guess that's why the Club was trying to hide this again like Punch/Counterpunch. Don't support them.
No horns on Nova Prime is kiiiiiiinda a dealbreaker, because it would eliminate a key part of the resemblance to the character. This Lio works fine IMO and is "free" anyway. If this is a modification meant to differentiate the two characters further, it's downright clever. If the factory boned TFCC, then with respect for them, I'm probably not going to bite. (though I suppose a certain Venksta could always salvage matters)
So I'm staring at that new head and focus in on the sides where their should be a pair of silver horns. At first I didn't even think that they were there but then I focused in on a twin pair of silver "nubs". They do indeed appear clipped. Notice on the line art on the promo pic that he should have three sets of horns: two blue and the pair of silver. Looking at the head sculpt, it appears that they just simplified the design and melded the two pairs of blue horns into his head. My guess is they did this just to make it easier on themselves. Bad news. I don't think we are getting a better head on Nova, guys. IMO, this head sculpt came out rather bland and there is something almost uniquely "thuggish" about it. It just doesn't scream Leo or Nova. Very disappointing. But because the sensation is coming from the club, I'm becoming used to it.
Yes, true. Yet, very doubtful when you look at Fun Pub's track record with head sculpts as of late. This certainly could be the factory to blame, but in the end Fun Pub made the decision to do business with them in the first place. Come to think of it, have we been privy to any head "turnarounds" of late...?
Pete's Podcast the other day mentioned that it Lio Convoy will be featured in the next issue of the Club Magazine for people to see for sure that this is likely to be the final version, which I'd assume will show up in American letterboxes within a week (first week of the month?). http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...-botcon-2015-theme-revealed-post12134537.html .
The head is fine on Lio Convoy, a bit sad but tolerable, but it is going to be a major downfall for Nova Prime if it remains that way, because imo the head was the only thing going for that figure as I think the mold is unsuitable for the character.
Being the biggest Lio Convoy fan ever, I was looking forward to getting this guy since I do enjoy the mold itself, and while I'm no slouch when it comes to customs, the tiny little head will just be more effort then I would like to put into him to fix it. Oh well.
Our track record has been excellent overall as of late. Since we have teamed with Boss Flight the heads have been amazing... Chromedome, Rewind, Thrustinator, Krok, Cannonball, Scorponok... The heads for 2015 BotCon are outstanding. Devcon jaw/cheeks should have been a little wider, but again, overall, we have been thrilled with the results.
Can you please address wether this is a mistake or if this is how all the heads will look, including Nova Prime?
From Twitter, thanks to Tekno doing the Lord's work: https://twitter.com/The_TF_Club/status/559887754168107008 https://twitter.com/The_TF_Club/status/559889865790476289 Take-home message to me is: wait and see, but there may be hope.
Agreed; Nova Prime is probably the biggest concern. I wasn't planning on getting that redeco, myself, but I did think that the headsculpt concept was really good. If the horns are nerfed that hurts the resemblance a lot. And funnily enough, I asked them back in June if the clearance would be a concern (given we'd just had that debacle with Rampage's horns), and the club didn't think it'd be a problem.
