If Takara is trying to do 1984 and 1985 evenly, we almost have to see another 1984 before another 1985.

The 1984s already outnumber the 1985s 11:7 and 6:5. Each 1985 release is a bigger step to completion than for 1984. But here's the thing, they've already done alot of the easy stuff. They did 2 of the 3 interyear retools and 1 of the 3 intrayear retools. Hoist is a given if Trailbreaker happens. Ratchet is a given if Ironhide happens. And then what's left?

Well, all of the minibots remaining are unique molds. Same for the 1984 cars and 2 of the 4 remaining 1985 cars. That last pair of 1985 cars is the last intrayear retool, Inferno and Grapple. While all of the cars have a Diaclone/JPG1/eHobby recolor to fall back on, I don't know if the size (and therefore price) difference is too much. Plus, there's the idea that nobody in 1985 is on the same level of popularity as, say, Jazz.

I would almost say get Inferno/Grapple out of the way while the line is hot and then alternate the rest in a staggered format. For example: Sunstreaker, Skids, Ratchet, red Sunstreaker, Tracks, Crosscut, Ironhide, Road Rage, Trailbreaker, Mirage, Deep Cover, Hoist, Cosmos, red Mirage, blue Trailbreaker, Jazz, Hauler, Cliffjumper, Stepper, Hound, etc. Just keep alternating colors, vehicles, retools/recolors, etc while spacing out the more popular characters so there's not too big of a lull anywhere. I guess you could sprinkle some Decepticons in there too but most of the "regular" ones are done and what's left are more specialized like triplechangers and combiners....

 

I'd prefer a Decepticon or a more popular character like Iron Hide or Jazz before Tracks. I was never really a fan of the character. If it does come to fruition I'll more than likely skip it.

have to say though I enjoy this suspense and excitement build to the announcement over the 2 years in advance reveals that BBTS did with MP17-22. while it was cool knowing that far in advance, it also made the wait for them that much longer and drawn out.

would be cool from now on if the reveals just get known when they have protos to show. I'd be fine with that, and it would mean that we're at least to a somewhat finalized design point in the process with maybe a 6-8 month period left to go til release.
