Yeah, force Minumus fans to fork out a fortune while Albimus Prime fans get a cheap as well as a Masterpiece figure in a couple of years.:gen069:

Why not? IDW fans have been telling me "Just buy the Masterpiece figures!" whenever I complain about getting IDW versions rather than G1.

Why is it ok for the G1 fans to have to go for more expensive options for what we want, but not the IDW fans?

Let's give the G1 fans the less expensive option for a change, and let the IDW fans pay through the nose!

Because that's what Masterpiece is for. Near perfect replicas of G1 figures. Generations is for modernizations of the previous version. And that's what Minimus is, an actual character that meant something from a modern G1 story. Not just what Magnus looks like under his armour.

Not to mention, Masterpieces are more expensive because to get higher quality. Fun pub's figures have high prices just because they slap "exclusive" on it. They don't even make new molds so whatever they'd end up giving us would be a massive pile of ass.

Wow, on the basis of one rumor we've already gotten to factions of the fandom yelling "No YOU should pay more!" "No, YOU should pay more!"

Not all of us can afford MPs. And MP Ultra Magnus is pretty fuckin big.

Also that statement about Generations being modernizations of the previous version? Untrue. Whirl's figure isn't accurate to the comics. Wreck-Gar's latest incarnation before his RTS figure was Animated Wreck-Gar. Warpath never got a WFC toy. He got an Earth mode under the exact same Generations banner as WFC Optimus, Bee, Megatron, and Soundwave. Red Alert's Generations figure certainly wasn't based off his preceding version either; and that version was a female.

So technically, Hasbro's never followed a rule where each Generations figure is based off the most recent incarnation in the fiction. It just happens more often than not because it's convenient. And I agree with Anguirus. It's silly to fight over this when we don't even know if it's true.

They're just fairly good-sized Voyagers, and being in package makes them look even bigger compared to Thundercracker. Out of box, they'd come up to about TC's orange cockpit chest.

Also, judging by that concept art we got from Botcon, Ultra Prime's headsculpt looks more Powermaster Prime with long antennae and a faceplate, not like Ultra Magnus.

If this rumor is true, it's most likely a brand-new Leader-class Ultra Magnus.

Interesting if this does turn out to be true. Assuming it's not just Voyager Optimus or Motormaster with extra armor, that would be three Leader molds for the Generations line. Personally, I'm happy with Classics Magnus and the FP City Commander set, so I'd likely sit this one out unless it's mind-blowingly spectacular. And I'll definitely pass if it makes any reference at all to that 'Minimus Ambus' nonsense.

Yes, he is and no, he's not. The IDW continuity established that there was an actual Ultra Magnus at one point, who was killed, and a succession of people have been assigned his identity ever since to keep the 'legend' going. It's not like 'Ultra Magnus' is a completely made-up identity and never existed as an independent being. Minimus Ambus calling himself Ultra Magnus and wearing an Ultra Magnus suit doesn't make him actually Ultra Magnus any more than changing my name to Albert Einstein and dressing like Albert Einstein would make me actually Albert Einstein.

You're taking a fictional character and background and making it out like this is someone who actually existed, and it doesn't work. Yes, there was an original Ultra Magnus, but he's never been seen in the comics; the Ultra Magnus character that has been shown throughout the IDW continuity is Minimus Ambus. So as far as we the readers are concerned (and even the majority of characters in-story), Ambus is IDW Ultra Magnus.

It does and it doesn't. He's been Ultra Magnus for a long time, and with no more Tyrest, he's now Ultra Magnus, and to most characters, the Ultra Magnus.

Like, you are still Albert Einstein. Not the Einstein, but you are Albert Eistein, and it's what your friends call you. Now they all just know you're not the same one from history books.

Hey, I'm not the one who suggested (albeit perhaps inadvertently) that the IDW fans are somehow more entitled to inexpensive figures than the G1 fans. Not every G1 fan can afford to get all the MP releases, or even just the main character releases. But we're always being pointed to Masterpiece as the answer to wanting modern, traditional-styled G1 updates.

A lot of people weren't satisfied with Target Repaint Magnus and want a proper Classics Ultra Magnus. Not a too-large, expensive Masterpiece one, and not an IDW one. Just a nice, updated, fully-armored version of the guy from TFTM, plain & simple.

IDW figures are really for only a particular subset of the hardcore fans. So why is there currently such a disproportionate representation of that one franchise in Generations?

Honestly, I'd be satisfied with a better balance between classic G1 and IDW Neo-G1 in Generations. Right now it seems like Generations consists of IDW, and everything else, with IDW replacing classic G1.

I totally agreed with you regarding the G1 UM. Me, I'm not a fan of this cosplay UM/title name so I bailed out from IDW Universe/Robert storyline. If others enjoy it, more power to them. With that being said, if there's a toy featuring IDW UM with M.Ambus, would I purchase it? Of course yes, I'll treat him just like any other UM incarnation.

As for speculation, considering Jetfire to Thundercracker, I just hope they don't repaint/slight retool the CW Optimus and calls it UM.

There's so much IDW because it's a new version of G1, which is exactly what Generations is. I am still waiting for an explanation for how an original update of G1 is required when basing them on IDW's update of G1 should be killing two birds with one stone.

How is it killing 2 birds with one stone? Would there be a Magnus core figure at retail (not a FunPub price gouge) that I could swap in for the destined-for-the-garbage Ambus? And would this be a white Optimus lookalike? Or would there be a G1-inspired remold of Ultra Ambus released as an actual G1 Ultra Magnus at retail? Because those would be two birds, not settling for an IDW version and pretending its G1.

That's like saying we should be satisfied with Prime Ultra Magnus or Animated Ultra Magnus, and their existence makes a Classics version unnecessary. IDW Ultra Ambus is a completely different character, from a completely different franchise.

IDW is its own incarnation to me, not G1. My biggest problem with it actually is that its supposed to be G1, but fails for me in so many ways. Minimus Ambus (even the name is stupid!) as the core of Ultra Magnus rather than Magnus/white Prime is one of the biggest.

If Hasbro wants to cash in on the popularity of the IDW comics, that's fine, but for Primus sake, please stop passing it off as G1!

So no, an IDW Ultra Ambus that I'm supposed to settle for as Ultra Magnus is not killing two birds in any way.

OK, Magnus isn't very G1 but everyone else, other than Bumblebee and Megatron, are. There are some differences, just like with Classics but the general look is the same.

Moving away from the "is it G1?" discussion, I seriously don't see why everyone is so obsessed with white Optimus. He has almost never been seen in any fiction. Minimus (so stupider than Magnus) is the only inside of Magnus that actually meant anything. I don't see why G1 fans couldn't just leave his armour on. And he was Magnus. He's a strict, by the books, former law enforcer who is currently Rodimus' second in command. That's not an act Minumus puts on. That's who he is. The only thing he puts on is the armour.

I will admit that it's not fair to expect those who want a very eighties toy to buy Masterpiece but giving eighties fans two options and IDW fans nothing is less fair.
