Next up we've got a look at one of the Legends class Generations toys who've yet to hit shelves - it's Autobot Gears with Autobot Eclipse! This duo are a part of a Legends assortment which by all rights should be out right now - the following wave, with Cliffjumper, is already at US retail, so who knows when these two might make their appearance?

Gears is, simply put, fantastic. We've been waiting a good long while for an updated, Classics-style Gears to round out the original six Minibots (if you count Botcon 2007 Huffer - if not, rumor goes there's a new one of him coming too...) . Like the Generation 1 toy, this new Gears shares a mold with Swerve. The truck mode is spot-on to Gears, with the robot mode only lacking a little red on the flat panel behind the head and the cheeks to really seal the deal. Like Swerve he's got decent articulation, serviceable but not mind-blowing, and no head articulation sadly. Eclipse, an update of Micromaster Eagle Eye, is a cool little addition and as with Flanker, who came with Swerve, he makes a great gun for his partner robot.

Together these two make a great set, and will be worth tracking down, as and when they make an appearance at retail. Check out our gallery and see what you think:

Generations / Classics Minibots all together - Brawn's torso unpegged when I was posing him for this photo and I didn't catch it until after I put them all away, argh!

He's not out yet to the best of our knowledge, so if you see him, please do let us know! I ordered mine online (with a bit of hesitation at the price) but I really don't regret it. He's a cool little guy.

Not wild about that headsculpt, face looks a little narrow within his 'helmet'. maybe it'll grow on me in hand.

I'll grab him if I see him. I wish the package art looked more like the toy in the package and that Eclipse wasn't a blue-ish color (makes him look too similar to Swerve's partner Flanker). But Gears will be fine with the other mini-vehicle updates.

it's really weird, those mold totally works for me as Swerve and totally doesn't as Gears. Not sure why.

I love how in the first picture Gears has his hands on his hips going "Oh Eclipse what I am ever going to do with you?" :lol

Well Brawn's face is black but now I cannot unsee that. O_O

I have to say that Gears has a better colour scheme for the mold but Swerve is indefinitely the better character.

Glad I ordered these from BBTS. I found Cliffjumper and Nemesis Prime at retail already. Maybe the waves got/will be released in opposite order?

Gears was my second Minibot. First was Windcharger.

Really looking forward to this one. Still ticked over Target's screw up over the summer...

not only do I NOT count Swindlecon 2007 Huffer, I don't count any of their exclusives as part of anything. they can keep all of their overpriced crap.

I think they could adapt this mould pretty easily to give us a legends Brawn.
The head would work as is and the body wouldn't take a lot of tweaking to make a very cool looking Brawn with a pretty solid land rover alt mode.
I really hope that they complete the rest of the minibots in this style/scale. It would compliment the CHUG line perfectly.

Wouldn't mind a new mold for Huffer and Pipes.

This mold works for Brawn, but I wonder if they'd do something new for a Brawns/Outback mold.

Neat colors and head sculpt but I can't over how this mold's shoulder joints seem to be at head level, which kinda throws off his proportions.

He doesn't look that half bad, sure some red paint on the head will do wonders and make him more G1 accurate and like everybody is saying this mold of Gears could make a decent and yet cool looking Brawn.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the pix of him from the summer Cons, and still feel the same: this looks more like a Brawn than a Gears. Which isn't a bad thing, just means he will require green and mustard paint, especially since I already have both Cogz and and Cogwheelz.

It's instock with Acid Storm at TFSource right now, so I don't think it's going to get cancelled.

Still not a fan of the Gears/Brawn hybrid.
