A very long time, it seems. Apparently they did a repro set for the original Marlboor figure, but found themselves in a legal jam and discontinued it.

And once again, for no actual good reasons whatsoever, a number of the fandom are getting angry about a figure that they're under no obligation to buy. Yet they can't even appreciate the fact that Takara is doing something for fans that they didn't even have to while letting them maximize usage of the mold. It's not as if someone has to buy every single release in a given toy line, numbering aside. Sure, OCD completists will have an issue, feeling compelled to buy every number in the sequence of a set, but oh well. If you don't like it, don't buy it and wait for the next thing you'd prefer. There's no finite number of releases yet mentioned. I'll pick it up because I like it better than the standard Wheeljack look (which I even passed on in the 80s since i hated the overly long arms) and it's unique. Just like I skipped Sideswipe and bought Tigertrack. However, that's just my opinion and I naturally respect all others. But all the bitching and naysaying is just a waste. An individual can be disappointed the reveal wasn't a desired character without a bunch of angst being the result.

Who is actually downright mad and throwing a shitstorm about this? People are discussing. It is a message board...opposing viewpoints and all on the toys we are considering making purchases on. Everyone is discussing pretty level headed in here unless I've missed something.

No, and I don't even know if that's necessarily an issue. The issue is that, for a lot of 'completeist' collectors of the core G1 line-up, there's no longer a themed flow. IE: Collector X proudly has MP 10-22... but then 25-26, then maybe 30, then 32-34. Granted, it does not directly affect what they choose to buy for completion sake, but there's also no downplaying that the catalog system was/is a pretty integral part of how or why a lot of people specifically buy Takara versions even when/if there's a Hasbro counterpart. And to be fair, it was Takara that set this precedent themselves. So to suddenly throw in a seemingly random "who's that?" (for a lot of people) repaint now, out of nowhere, is a move that, once again, is certainly going to get a reaction. As we're seeing.

Those "completists" should decide themselves what they want in their collection, not Takara. If people feel compelled or angry that they have to buy something, I think there are terms for the psychological phenomena associated with that.

So this is as close as I can expect to getting an MP Malboor? And it will have a faction symbol tampoed on it? OK. Fine. I've decided to love it. :D

    Cool!
I didn't really think we'd get a Marlboor Wheeljack repaint, although I kinda wanted one. And now looking at that freakin sexy alt mode, man, I need to get this.

I'm saddened to hear Reprolabels got into a jam for trying to make a Marlboor sticker set - Marlboor doesn't even exist!! But without the desire to combat Marlboro's legal team claiming who knows what, because that'd be a terrible way to spend your money, I can see why they'd back off that. But still... I'm gonna mod this thing into a Marlboor deco so quick.

Also really like seeing the toy style double shoulder missile launchers - and I hope it will inspire the Dr. Wus of the world to make some for Wheeljack too. And to reproduce the Immobilizer.

I did kinda expect it to be a MP-20M or something, but whatever. No real difference. Did I mention how freaking sexy that alt mode is??

I know, and I did acknowledge that exact thing. Still just offering "this is why" perspective, though. Not debating it myself.

Read the full thread. The number of posts with not remotely productive butthurt moaning about the figure existing and the numbering is not discussion. Some of us, like myself are just worn out reading that garbage over and over and OVER, so we get wound up and lash out. No offence to those that can let it all flow over them and be cool, its absolutely demoralising to see the same entitled garbage from people who collect toys and are not forced to do so.

Its not your problem, but its a common thing on this board. New toy gets announced, bunch of sad socially awkward nerds start dumping on it. Not in a constructive way, in a spoilt, entitled way, and that, as I said, is NOT discussion. And those of us who pay out of our wages for these things, who really look forward to new stuff being announced, get driven away from the community because we just cant be bothered with talking to these people any more, not always, not immediately, but slowly many of us do.

Thats my 10 cents and as much as you may disagree, i'm not wrong.

No interest for me at all. But good news for those that have been looking forward to this deco.

There is a post that often gets repeated:
"If you don't like it, then don't buy it."

Well the same goes for internet posts:
"If you don't like it then don't read it."

Quick bit on the whole Slicer thing - I could see Takara doing a blue Slicer redeco, even if it departs from fiction, as they have been releasing quite a bit of stuff in various lines that is US-fiction based and largely unfamiliar to Japanese fans (Drift, Straxus, Thunderwing, Wipe-Out in the United lines, G2 Sideswipe already in the MP line, a curiosity with Shattered Glass via eHobby).

That said, they haven't started covering Action Masters in any capacity either, so Slicer may still be off-the-table for Takara, especially if the Action Master element is relevant to them and a real roadblock to a release.

The Classics approach would be remolding Tracks from MP-20 or Sunstreaker or Breakdown from MP-12 or whatever. THAT's the Classics approach.

The only reason "Exhaust," by this name or any other, doesn't really exist previously is the G1 Wheeljack mold was "lost/damaged/whatever" during the run of eHobby/exclusive G1 redecos released during the initial G1 reissue craze. If the mold had been available, it's quite possible Marlboro Wheeljack would've been reissued then and had a name slapped on it by Takara, a la Tigertrack, Clamp Down, Deep Cover, Megaplex, Road Rage & others (Hauler & Detritus for the non-Diaclone-based stuff). Additionally, regardless of the current status of the original mold, Takara hasn't really gone down the eHobby well via other G1 molds released since or via Classics (much to my own annoyance, given what's available). With MPs, honestly I think it was inevitable a character would "debut" (on some level) in the MP line because of issues with its "ancestor" mold not being available earlier and/or not being covered in a separate line (this could've happened with Red Mirage or any of the three Diaclone Sunstreakers too).

This, particularly the bolded part. People spewing uninformed crap are less helpful, and to me more damaging, contributions to a thread than someone snapping and calling someone an "asshole" or "jackass" or whatever.

(This is also why I don't go in the third party forum as much anymore.)

Then...don't by it from US retailers?

As mentioned above, complaining about people having ill-informed positions regarding Diaclone and/or the realities of toy-making, plus this weird obsession with the numbering "and what it means," is hardly dictatorial. More like asking for people to maintain perspective.

Discussion would be ACTUALLY talking about the original piece. Talking about any inconsistencies, speculating about the background of the new character, or comparing it to the existing wheeljack.

Maybe letting people know that you don't like the head sculpt, or just saying you're a casual and this isn't for you.

However, checking in to bitch and cry that this is going to destroy the MP line, and the numbering system is ruining your life, or complaining that this isn't MP Jazz, or that stunticons will never happen now and Star saber raped your mother... isn't discussion.

Why are TF fans so entitled, bitchy, and petty? Is it a maturity thing?

Wow really surprised with the amount of people that have an issue with this figure. Personally I love it. It homages the original toy as well as the fact that it's based off a real car. Nostalgia for Wheeljack aside, this color scheme looks more striking to me and I have more memories of Marboro racing cars than I do Alitalia. Also Takara needs to recoupe costs so I'm not really sure what else they would have released him as, other than maybe Slicer. Add to that it's got a remolded head (and launchers), I'm all for it.

Just FYI, here is the real car both this and the Diaclone toy were based off of.
