The fact that the Jack Kirby direction is new to both franchises is kinda the point.

-ZacWilliam, it's bringing something new and creative to the franchises while homaging some of the greatest comics of the past.

I guess I could use a sharpie to make those Kirby squiggly lines on my old toys.

    Welp, here goes nothing...

I don't care if it's channeling the horrible artwork of the original Marvel crossover.
I don't care if it's channeling Jack Kirby; which it's not. Kirby's art was good.
    The artwork is terrible.

I just don't care for the artwork. it looks too simple, for some reason i feel like i should get a pack of gum with this.

No. Super creative and super fun homage to one the greatest comic artists of all time and the raw primitive weird and creative comics of the past.

-ZacWilliam, if only more comics had this absolute kinetic creativity and fun to them. The industry would be a bettered place.

I've always loved TF/Joe crossovers. When I was a kid they'd happen in my world all the time.

As far as professionally produced stories IMO, the Devil's Due crossover stuff is the best we've seen. I have the omnibus and still pick it up regularly. Good fun stuff.

That said I don't hate this IDW book so far, but a lot of fans seem to. I can't help but think that IDW, which has been hitting a lot of home runs since LSotW, miscalculated here.

But we shall see what happens. I'm more intrigued by the fate of the book than the book itself.

The sales from Issue 1 do not suggest a miscalculation as it blew IDWs other TF books away.

-ZacWilliam, it's gotten a ton of praise in the comic press as well, suggesting a lot of that sales may be from outside the usual TF fandom.

    ^ This.

I'm not going to say I've been everywhere and seen everything, but the ONLY very negative criticism I've seen of this book is from the hard-hardcore Transformers fandom.

I think this is the kind of book that you can tell from the cover if it's going to appeal to you. Unless you feel obligated to buy everything that says "Transformers" on it, there's no reason it should upset you.

Interesting but that was #1. Time will tell overall.

And again I'm not like rooting for the book to fail or saying I hate it by any means. But it certainly is different...

I realize that isn't always a bad thing.

Best part of this arguement is that if we go by July's sales, the month old hamburger sold twice as many copies.

Some above are bashing the art, by saying Kirbys was art was great. During Kirby's time, Kirby had quite a few detractors as well.

Scioli doing Kirby was Godland. This is not Scioli doing Kirby. You can say it a thousand times, but it just isn't.

Sciolo is ALWAYS doing Kirby to an extent. It's a huge influence on his art style. Even when not doing straight Kirby there is a major Kirby influence on his art.

This is him doing Kirby, and Steranko, and the early Joe and TF books, and raw primitive early Silver Age in general. But Kirby is still a huge facet of it.

To quote Chris McFeely great explanation elsewhere:

    -ZacWilliam, says it all really.

Yes, it's definitely, intentionally, ironically hipster. Like any other product, movie or franchise actively trying to aim for nostalgia.
What's our opinion on stuff like Grindhouse movies? Hobo With a Shotgun?

Yes, because anyone who genuinely likes this for what it is must be a clueless sap!

Your claim could've been true if this comic was not even remotely trying to be 'good' - good as in spending every inch of its art and writing on mimicking a comic from 30 to 50 years ago. I understand that is simply not what some people are interested in (again, I'm not interested in this book either), but the situation is much more complex than 'it's intentionally trying to mimic something that is shit, therefore it's shit'.

Dude, don't even bother. The last time anyone got in a conversation with Newholl I think the thread was deleted.

    Yeah, one of those kinds.

I thought I would hate it, too. #0 ended up being a good read, despite my preconceptions. I thought I would hate #1... Loved it. #2 I looked forward to and it delivered. Can't wait...

Anyone who doesn't enjoy this series so far is really missing out. This is rivaling MTMTE. It's worth giving a chance to if you haven't.
