    Well at lot of their really good stuff like (Winter Soldier, X-Men DOFP and Godzilla) all came out in May but the stuff like Guardians and TMNT are coming out next month.

    They shouldn't rule everything out just yet.

    The music industry is struggling too. Album sales in US has been the pit without Adele & Taylor Swif, while Frozen soundtrack sold more than any album this year.

    Yep, they still are. There's just no way to prevent somebody from ripping music if they're determined to. Probably never will be.

    But, I feel the music industry has been adapting as well as they can. Instead of trying stamp out file sharing, they pretty much rolled with it after the Napster fiasco, took the idea, and just slapped a price tag on the song.

    Just not sure how the movie industry can adapt without the Box Office/Theater as we know it suffering. Will be interesting to see what they come up with.

    Edit:
    Next summer we'll find out if it's really sequel fatigue XD, as the box office will be more sequels!

    Maybe people wouldn't pirate if they felt more confident that the movie they would be paying to see would be any good.

    The summer blockbuster just isn't as much of a draw in a world where we have constant access to whatever media we want on our phones, tvs, and computers. Interactive media is also a larger threat to movies, and, combined with higher movie prices in comparison to many alternatives (and the existence of alternative ways of seeing the same movie in a post vhs world), it's tough for hollywood to put as many butts in the seats per capita as they did in previous decades.

    That it feels like there hasn't been a summer movie that "changes everything" in the way Jaws or the first star wars prequel (which I would say jump started the shift towards franchises from single movies/occasional sequels), and that the majority of "blockbuster" films these days appear to be based on preexisting properties probably doesn't help, either.

    "Hmm... I wonder if the fact this is a year filled with sequels to films that barely got around 40% audience rating has anything to do with the fact that they are underperforming? Nope, lets blame it on piracy"

    ---

    Any who, in other news Marvel has announced that they are doing three films a year from 2017 onwards and have a massive schedule of films being released that average around $857M earning each. Soon Marvel will have enough to buy back the rights to Fantastic Four and Spider-man easily or simply fight off the competition easily via using their name alone.

    Anyway... The only reason this is a bad summer is because in honesty the only films that could be summer blockbusters are piles of trash. The only two that have a chance of getting anywhere high in this summer are;

    Guardians Of The Galaxy;
    Has potential but being a 'solo film' and riding mostly off the Marvel Studios name will likely only make $600M, enough to get a sequel but not enough to be called a great success.

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles;
    Has potential based off the brand name alone, despite the movie looking like a pile of fart, sex and badly timed jokes

    ---

    As for films that will earn over a billion easily next year;
    - Avengers 2
    (Predicting $1.2-2.5b)
    - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
    (Predicting $1.1-1.7b)
    - Star Wars 7
    (Predicting $1.1b-1.3b)

    It's not like the box office is going under, interest in certain movies is just dipping. Just like interest with Transformers, rises and falls.

    I was under the impression that the whole point of that was to NOT pay money for the movie at all, not pay some other idiot.

    I don't think piracy is to blame for this as much as it is the increasing ticket prices along with the availability of services like Amazon Instant, Redbox, and Netflix. People are now willing to wait to see movies in the comfort of their homes for a cheaper price.

    Or maybe people are getting tired of summer tentpole films? I dunno.
