I will hold you personally responsible for when we get "Transformers 5: The Great MacGuffin Hunt".

Seriously though, I enjoyed Transformers Prime, but that show had a LOT of problems. There was a lot of bad writing, and at times, it was a complete mess. Other times, the episodes were fantastic. It was definitely not a consistent experience, though.

Yeah, who knew? Funny thing is...throughout the whole movie even knowing the history, I still had hope.

That's the part that stood out to me. So many in this fandom make Michael Bay out to be this evil, vindictive person or a drooling simpleton just because they dislike his films. It's gotten to the point where criticism of the live-action films has almost jumped the shark because it's devolved into petty, personal attacks against Michael Bay as a person. Even if, by all accounts, he's a decent guy who supports a few good causes.
It's just gotten ridiculously unfair to the guy.

All Transformers has been about hunting for something if not they would just stay in the base and not do anything since the beginning.

Opinions are perfectly fine and is human nature but if your opinion is that this movie sucks and it has to have some kind of whatever or whoever you think the best writer, plot, design to make good money.

It's an opinion the facts are that they make good money like they are now and the mass public really doesn't care about them having anything change.

Also, I watched the Twilight movies don't have any issues with them big wolves and vampires are neat.

Oh so certain movies are what's wrong with today's society. Watching and enjoying a movie that some consider to be trash indicates a problem in our society. That's just.... Wow.

Exactly my problem too. Finding objective criticism of his work is difficult because as soon as his name comes up, the critics get out the pitchforks and fire, and I've seen several movie critics damning the movie out of hand without even seeing it. It's ridiculous, and it has seriously made me question the credibility of some of these critics. The score on Rottentomatoes.com effectively means nothing.

I haven't seen it yet, but judging this one from the last three and every other film he has ever made, I'm sure but gonna suck. No one wants a Scorsese film, but how about a Whedon one or a Faverau one?Or along the lines of any Marvel flick. I've seen the toys, so once again they look like a hot mess. As previous people have stated R2 Bumblebee still doesn't talk. Hopefully, they will let someone else do the next one. People don't go to see the movie because of Bay, they go because it's Transformers. No matter who is the director your going to have cars, robots, and explosions, maybe after the next one I could actually leave the theater with out a feeling if disgust.

Hey man, well said. I get what you're saying.

But understand me, my bias against Bay is only due to my dislike of the last 2 films. I liked/didn't love the first 1 - I think the guidance of Spielberg helped him.

Bias is only based on my past experience - which is the same as learning not to touch the hot kettle after you got burned - AKA common sense.

That said I went, albeit with low expectations, but I was hoping that it would be better than the last 2. And it was better than the last 2 - but not by much.

Bay doesn't have the creative goods in my opinion to handle this franchise. Del Torro is A GEEK. He GETS FANTASY like YOUNG GEORGE LUCAS, like PETER JACKSON, like CAMERON. Bay is NOT THAT GUY - he fumbles creatively with subtle fantasy - to me it's like watching gorilla trying to do origami. His hands are too big and he just doesn't give a F#@K. He is a cool guy frat boy, and IMHO the robot stuff needs someone who can geek out. He doesn't have the patience to service the true fantasy and mythos.

Sentinel Prime had a cool voice, and said some dramatic lines. But it was empty and cliched and lost in a mess of a crappy overblown bloated story. I liked the twist that he was a bad guy - but it was just a rabbit out of a hat - not true character development in my opinion.

Yes the monsters in Pacific Rim were beasts - but for me they had excellent character animation and unique visible body acting that was LOADED with personality. Yes the ILM animation in TF movies is cool, but it's servicing bad stories, and bad character development - so by comparison, I believe Pac Rim wins the day. Sorry - that's just my opinion.

I did like Lockdown acting-wise. He had the most good stuff in these films for me.

    That's all.

Heyyyyy? I was a frat boy, and I've been a TF fan since the diaclone days. Lol. I have to agree that Lockdown was probably the best character this film. He was very Clint Eastwood. In his mind everyone was stupid except him. Would have been a good one to keep.

Marvel's formula is starting to wear thin, to be honest. Iron Man 3 really tired me to that whole exercise. Yea, Avengers was fun. Can we take a break for a bit?

Yep. I've seen "internet critics" review the damn thing, and they sound like they haven't even seen it. AoE was not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, but it did improve on some overall criticisms that some had directed against the first three movies. Yet I hear these people go "same old from Bay!" and "just as bad as I expected." It's like they already formed their opinion before they saw the film and nothing the film did was going to change their minds.
Either that or they just never saw the thing and are bashing it because "RAR MICHAEL BAY IS EVIL!"

I love this statement. People act like sci fi plots are intelligent, they usually are dumb , cheesy, and full of plot holes IF YOU OVERSCRUTINIZE them. Star Wars is dumb is you really consider the story. Some old feeble man shooting lightning bolts can defeat a young agile dude? Why didn't they just shoot the FUCK out of the emperor? Or launch a nuke at him? In Captain America, NOONE can just shoot him and kill him? Why do other heros exist around Superman? couldn't he just beatup all the villains and imprison them in the Phantom Zone? Why do Batman and Superman never imprison Joker and Lex Luthor there?

To me, a film is good if it entertains the masses.

I agree. I think RT is useful for somethings, but the site is obviously designed to be controversial. The average film sucks (aka rotten). Since when does average equal rotten? I think the rating system is flawed, and thus only there for shock value. When the Lego Movie is higher rated than the majority of great films of the last 20 years, the system is flawed. Lego Movie (Everything is Awesome!) was really enjoyable, but better than the Avengers? Schindler's List? 300? The Matrix? No Country For Old Men? Million Dollar Baby? Even the mighty Avatar?

It's a crap site, the critics views aren't necessarily, but that rating system is meant to be polarizing (as well as needlessly unobjective and controversial). I believe it's the only reason the site exists. I swear if it didn't A TON of these threads wouldn't exist, because people wouldn't have an 'authority' to champion as validating their feelings.

One could argue you exist on the opposite end of the spectrum, you just tend to be more intelligent and snarky with it.

I agree. I don't get it. I keep picking on Avatar (yes it is old), but that movie barely had a plot. The plot really was technology bad, nature good. The love story was visible 30 miles away, the 'replace your dead twin, but you're randomly and for no reason better than him' angle was contrived... It truly was only worth seeing for the awesome visuals and the villain, and even he was about as stereotypical and clichéd as can be.

I agree. Cameron still gets movies rated on his great and groundbreaking action work from the 80s, he's essentially Bay with VASTLY superior editing skills. He's even more of an asshat as a person (such a jerk in person).

I was with most of what you were saying, til you stuck your foot in your mouth. Who are you to call 99 percent of the audience idiots? I suppose your IQ is higher than us and you're the 1 percent of society that craps cinnamon and creates all that is masterful. Those comments are shameful and disrespectful. You have some nerve calling people (especially kids) idiots while you're wasting time complaining about a Michael Bay movie on a website for adults who still enjoy toys. You might as well be pissing in the wind.

I had to read dictionaries and high school books when I was 7, had to practice the saxophone, and still try to be a kid, and I know I would have loved the movies even more then. But I'd be an idiot cause I like something you don't? What a disgusting comment. You should be ashamed of yourself for even injecting such nonsense into a conversation. It's comments like this that incense people and start online nastiness.

Saddest part is you're just as bad as those that you would accuse of making lowbrow entertainment the standard, because such pompous and offensive comments force people to defend themselves from such mindless accusations. You could have used your words more constructively and chose to express yourself in that fashion? :thumbdown

Yeah. 6-17 year old boys like my father and mother in laws (in their 70s and 60s respectively), or my girlfriend in her early twenties. The target demographic.

In all seriousness, you look at the world today and think, 'War? Racism? Poverty? Discrimination? Economic depression? Fuck that. Michael Bay is still making movies. That's what's wrong with society nowadays.'

I don't mean to dis fratboys :)  sorry

Lots of fratboys are smart cool dudes and geeky I'm sure, jeez I really feel bad now :-/

I will restate it. Bay is a cool-guy persona he tries to impose on that wannabe cool guy, dumb humor on the movies - and I know he doesn't geek out about the mythology at all, I just think he is ill-equipped to handle the alien robot side of the mythos. Just in the wrong hands.

Yeah, with sci-fi movies when you get stumped on what to do next with a plot you can always fall back on time travel. Then you can do whatever the hell you want. New Star Trek? You can rewrite the whole history.
