I think Hasbro and Paramount should be embarresed that their franchise is being a laughing stock in the film industry. So what makes Marvel so much better than Transformers? Better character developement and plot?

 

Yes and yes. Plus the MCU has everything planned out on how each movie would connect with each other.

 

I love The Avengers in particular because it pits a heroic all-around nice guy soldier in charge of a diverse group of heroes to work together and build on each other's strengths as they face off against a lovable rogue.

In other words, it's what I want a Transformers movie to be like.

 

Totally agree with this. Unlike TF the movie, the writer made the reboot of their origin in each movie

To the Op, even though Marvel is better, Marvel movie this year cannot beat AoE at $100 Mill after just 5 day

 

This is my theory: They are more grounded and the acting is just miles better, Robert Downey Jr. alone is better than any single actor has ever been in a TF movie.

Also, they are just much more grounded and the humor seems to fit in with the characters more naturally as it's usually just witty dialogue mixed in with regular conversation.

They have different directors for the films too, so the quality from film to film can be different and surprising, like the guys who knocked Cap 2 out of the park.

 

That's like asking why different types of Fruit Juice is better than Coca Cola.

Marvel Universe has been around what, 75 years since 1939?
Transformers is at it's 30th anniversary in 2014.
Already pretty respectable considering it's heritage.

But that's not all, Marvel makes its money spinning storylines and manufacturing superheroes. Their core business is to constantly diversify into new character markets.
Transformers on the other hand is, and may forever will be a glorified toy commercial. There is no fight.

 

As well, the Marvel universe movies tend to have an amazing thread of continuity weaved through their films.

This connective tissue is really thin at all regarding the Transformers films. We see characters come and go, master plans that get more convoluted. At times, it's like a kid delivering a story that is a stream of consciousness, where when you sit back and listen, you go, 'wait a minute' regarding how crazy Megatron's 'master plan' over the trilogy was.

 

Continuity and amazing actors bringing the movies to life. Two things Bayformers has never had.

 

I always enjoy the TF movies but honest to God there is just no comparison IMO. the connective tissue and narrative in the MCU is amazing to me.

I cant even get a straight answer out of Bays movies about the fates of Jolt, Skids, Mudflap, Roadbuster, Topspin, Sideswipe & Dino.

its one of my biggest gripes concerning Bays movies.

 

-Yes on better character development and plot.
-Marvel has planned these movies out 'til 2028, so they know damn well what they're doing.
-Michael Bay is not involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe whatsoever, and let's hope it stays that way.
-Granted, a couple of the MCU films weren't that good, but as a whole the franchise has done really well.
-The Transformers films, despite making good money due to casual moviegoers being people with no taste in films whatsoever, still suck due to having a director who shouldn't be allowed to direct, and a writer who's clearly pulling half-baked plots out of his ass.

 

Honestly....I'm not a big fan of marvel films. Yeah, they're kinda cool, but I'm never excited for a marvel film...never. I think Avengers is overrated, and the only thing I liked about the film is Hulk...

 

Oh boy so many things.

Marvel plans ahead. Instead of just making up everything as they go along Marvel Studio has the universe planned out in advance. You can still watch individual movies instead of watching them all but if you watch every film you get rewarded with seeing the big picture. Planning ahead also means they will not kill off Loki if they need him later on.

Marvel studios is more willing to please a diversity of fans instead of just going for what is trendy at the moment. There is a chance that some people could find Captain America too old fashioned and corny, but for people who love that old heroic ideal Captain America is that bright spot of hey someone remembers the sort of heroes I like.

The humor at least to me feels more organic to the story than the Transformers humor that feels forced.

While every Marvel villain doesn't hit it out of the ball park when a Marvel villain does hit it out of the ball park they put the Transformers villains to shame. Marvel also varies up how they stop villains so it's not always the same old boring just kill all the villains to end the movie. And even if the hero wins there is a chance a villain could have advanced their schemes so Captain America winning doesn't totally stop HYDRA.

The Marvel movies also offer variety so it doesn't feel like you are watching the same film over and over again just with different super heroes. With Transformers it feels like they will never break from the same old formula of McGuffin is needed for the bad guys to pull off some world ending scheme. Even the tone of the Marvel films can vary so one film might be a fairly serious introspective about what is the core of the character after the world changed while another film might be a good old fashioned action adventure romp.

Marvel Studio has a variety of production teams and directors so if you just really don't like how one of the directors for Marvel Studios does a film you can always say well the next film is by someone else. With Transformers we are just stuck with Michael Bay and his production team until the series is ran into the ground. Marvel you can hope for change Transformers you are just stuck with as is.

Besides, the foreign markets are where the money is.

The US has grown tired of the Ice Age movies for example, but the foreign markets make up 2/3 of the big grosses on those.

It's a given that AOE will probably clean up better overseas than the States. Foreign markets are like the teenagers who think the flashy effects are the coolest thing ever (...says the guy who saw 'Twister' 5 times in theaters when he was 16).

Regardless, the MCU, and indeed the marvel universe I ngeneral, is meticulously planned out and interwoven. It now has the weight of Disney behind it, dozens of writers, producers and directors, top, top tier actors who want to play characters with a heritage dating back nearly a century.

The Transformers Universe, as much as I love it, is a jumbled cluster in comparison. not just the movieverse, I mean the whole lot, and the entire thing exists solely to sell toys.
