My guess is Paramount will do exactly the same thing they did with GI Joe. They will want the new director to change things because they need something different for the box office numbers they want but there will be a long list of things the director and writer can't change because Paramount can't risk losing anyone that might have liked the previous film.

So it will try to reboot without rebooting but being a sequel which isn't a traditional sequel and the whole thing will feel like a complete mess for both the people wanting change and the people never wanting any change.

Paramount is far too timid of a company to give a new production team free reign after the current team leaves and Paramount doesn't reboot until they have exhausted every possible way to breath any life into worn out franchises.
