i was just looking at the box art for the power attacker hound and i noticed something on his chest a Swiss army knife i thought it was pretty funny did anyone else happen to notice it or am i the only one
http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2...eissueart1.jpg/300px-G1_Hound_reissueart1.jpg Tell me, what was wrong with this? Dog tags, pocketknife, cigarette, bushy beard. He's just another caricature. Does Bay gave any creativity? At all?
Only one problem: That's G1. This is not G1. So therefore, yes, it's very creative. Having him be exactly the same would be uncreative. Also, it's not a cigarette. It's an ammo round.
So, the original Hound was brimming with creativity! I mean... he had a shoulder cannon! Like 50% of G1 Autobots... but he was, um... I mean, this is easily the funniest post. You act like a caricature is not creative? When in fact it immediately conveys the character's personality with total effectiveness wheras G1 Hound is literally just a generic robot? Also this. "A completely new and different design! That's so uncreative! Why didn't they just do the exact same thing as before!?"
But it's not creative at all. It's a direct ripoff of an existing military look, that Bay has somehow exaggerated into yet another stereotype, one that doesn't even fit with the "serious, dark" film he's been bragging about. How on Earth is this supposed to look like a completely alien robot, fighting with the heroes in a serious, no-nonesense time period? How does Bay expect us to take his "dark, gritty" re-imagining seriously, when it's half "realistic" rusty semis, menacing bounty hunters, and humans hunting heroes, and half dumb Disney cartoon? Pick a side, and stick to it. I understand he's a military character, but ya know what? If they hired me to come up with Hound's new appearance, I could come up with something that looks both militaristic, and alien, along with cool, and an echo of the original, not some cheesy, exaggerated robot that looks more cartoonish than something from the original cartoon itself.
But he never said this film was going to be dark. What He said was that he was taking the series "In a new direction" but the words "DARK" and "SERIOUS" never came out of his mouth when describing Age of Extinction.
Well, even if it didn't come out of Bay's mouth directly, other people associated with the film implied it, and it's pretty obvious it's what their going for. If this was Rescue Bots, this appearance might be acceptable. But let's think about this: The Autobots are being hunted to extinction by humans, and have lost all faith in them The humans are building their own robots, which could very well pose an even better threat to the Autobots A deadly, infamous bounty hunter shows up with a huge prison ship, to complicate things even furter for Prime Optimus is shot, and captured by Lockdown A struggling, single father tries to make ends meet for his family Government soldiers show up, beat up his daughter, and threaten both of them Optimus kills the soldiers So far, pretty PG-13 material, definitely not the lighthearted cartoon we're used to. But if this is the tone Bay wants to go with, it could work. But then... A fat, bearded, dumb-looking stereotypical character that barely even looks like a robot shows up, and undoubtedly provides much comic relief. Okay, tell me, did the cute, kiddie cartoon of the 1980s even have this type of dumb comedy? If this is the best Bay can do to provide mature adults with humor, then he should just quit trying. If Bay wants to do a silly, kids oriented, comedy movie, this works, but to me, this would be the equivalent of having Jar Jar Binks show up in the middle of Order 66 (And at least jar jar looked like something alien).
SPLIT LIP made the comment closer to my feelings about the character. These bots have SO little screen time, that you have to get as much of a feel for who the character 'is' as easily as possible. Especially if that particular character has less screen time than the rest. In the cartoons, this isn't an issue for obvious reasons, but in the movieverse you just can't have that much exposure to each character. In the cartoons, there were around 15 episodes (including the first 3 as a mini-series), which didn't have to try and follow one storyline.. and cost a LOT less to make. The new style robots are VERY creative. Whether we like them or not is our opinion of aesthetic, but making them into the G1 boxes we knew as kids just wouldn't work. That being said, the new look of some of the characters is looking a little more like they are from Prime, which I HATED... but it looks like they will work. Now, if that simpler design and increased productivity from not having to animate and render so much, means that we get lots more TRANSFORMER time... Then I'm all for it!!
Lol, maybe when I get the time, and motivation I will. I'm planning to put both Hound, and Drift into Photoshop, and make some corrections.
The more I see of Hound's design, the more I like it. He still makes me think of Bulkhead, but it's still a rather cool design. Kinda makes me wish there was going to be a bust of him like the ones of Optimus and Bumblebee. The Voyager looks good, but there's certain details it's lacking that a bust could really emphasize better. It's a Kup sort of thing, but I like the ammo cigar he's got. Also, while it's not the most creative design, it's definitely creative.
You may have a valid point in there somewhere, but TBH I'm not really interested in what it is because it reads as if you are about 14. Shitting fucking and dick riding gives what you say less credibility, not more. It is in breach of the first rule of the forums. Go read them, it's the big link that says 'rules' at the top... and then grow up. Everyone else is having a sensible adult discussion, and your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's.
Yeah! And this: All of these are awesome looking, without actually duplicating the original. I wouldn't even mind Hound having a slight implied stubble, or a metal panel bolted to his neck with his name, as long as they didn't look exactly like Earth beard, and dog tags. Stuff like that really throws me out. I just realized...where did Hound get a Swiss Army Knife in scale with himself...? Now THATS G1 accurate!
Yes,that's the point right? That being disguised as earth vehicles is one thing, but having a human construct such as dog tags is a bit weird. May as well give galvatron a shirt and tie.
