Yawn. ROTF was said to be darker than TF1, then DOTM was said to be even more dark than ROTF! What's next, AoE has no actual lighting budget, it's that dark?

God. So sick of people trying to hype the movies by saying they're all 'dark' and shit. Come on, people, it's transforming space aliens, if you need to go all the way to Buckets of Blood then you've lost the idea this is all about selling plastic robot toys to kids!

This. I like the movies... but I wish he would drop the violence back to a Marvel movie level instead of all the head crushing and spine ripping Mortal Kombat shit. This 'all badass 24/7' thing is getting old.

Bay needs to stop trying to make it all 'dark.' Let's have balance. Very few times in the films did the Transformers in film seem to experience anything other than pain ,agony and anger. Where is Optimus joy? When the films work is the moments like when he greets Sentinel and seems relieved and happy to see him. The films need more of these moments. Moments of joy for Megatron and the Cons when they capture something or critically injure an Autobot. More of these moments. Not more 'we're shooting more guns and blowing up more stuff, putting characters in more peril!' That's mindless action. Can we get some character?

Bay's films entertain, but they really lack a certain joy and wonder that the films should entail. Characters should be tougher, battles more personal (and less one sided), and deaths should be built to and used properly. The deaths of most every TF were wasted and felt... unsatisfying. They all felt like copouts except for Ironhide (and even that was wasted).

Looking forward to AOE, just hoping Bay brings character to the Transformers themselves this time. Not expecting much... I just look forward to the new CGI and hope the villains are actually formidable this time instead of just blowing up things and failing to fight back.

I remember back in the 90s comics wanted to be all dark and gritty, but the majority of them ended up just being childish and immature. That's the vibe I'm getting from Bay and crew.

Just go back to telling a story please, rather than trying to make everything GRIMDARK.

Every article will say for nearly any sequel, "we're making it darker, ooh, come and see it".

    It's all Dark Knight's fault.

Dark Knight is one of those AMAZING movies that had nothing BUT negative effect on the industry.

It's amazing and earned lots of money because of it's writing, story and character as well because it was a very unique take on an age-old franchise.

How ever what producers, being morons that don't care about movies and only look the numbers, got from it is that it was popular because it was "dark and grimm and realistic" so they STILL trying to ride that pony-ride.

It's like the 90's comic when everyone tough that Watchmen was great because it was dark without getting that it was popular because it turned the comic genre on it's head.

^Yup. It started with Jaws/Star Wars, then Terminator 2/Die Hard, then Jurassic Park, then Harry Potter etc. It's always when a unique, creative, and/or very well received or decent film gets a shit ton of money then all they other major studios try to emulate it and such because they want that much money too. and Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Whether it's a good or bad thing is a different Story however...

The inner Decepticon in me says make each movie more an more darker. Killing and destruction is what it's all about for the Decepticons after all. Some of us ^ get a lot more pleasure out of it. But at least precautions and protection is used. Megatron didn't put to much thought into his domination of humanity and look where it got him. Lots of starving hatchlings and a nagging Screamer of a wife, I mean second in the sack, I mean second command. From this day forward! We Decepticons will think before acting on our impulses and use protection with everyone, I mean watch where we stick, no that's not it!

Ahh fuck it! We will make humanity our bitch!

And of course, in addition to Watchmen, there was The Dark Knight Returns. So, that's twice Batman has been the unintended cause of ruinous consequences within a popular medium because of a bad case of the blind leading the blind.

I want to hate him for it, but I can't.

I'd actually disagree here, since everybody knows the best part of Dark Knight was Heath Leger's amazing performance as Joker, especially the actually funny parts (vanishing pencil, Joker crashing the party, the totally inprovised scene when the bombs don't immediately go off, etc.)

    Thread won.
