Seriously, though, I'll just quote Sam for my answer: "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!"

Me and my family really don't watch many modern movies, especially ones that look like just big explosive popcorn movies. The only reason we watched Transformers was because I had just become interested in it back in 2007. The whole movies haven't really become a joke, as much as certain cliche elements like "people running in slow motion away from explosions", or "I can't tell the robots apart", or "no no no no." More than a joke, Transformers has become a common example of a poorly written, poorly characterized film dominated by excessive CGI.
Don't get me wrong, they are fun movies, I'll admit it, back in 2007, when I was 11, I loved the film (although I still realized it was poorly written), so did my sister, and my mom (who usually doesn't care for SciFi) thought it was "cool how they transform". It wasn't until fairly recently I realized exactly how poorly written and characterized they were when I started comparing them to movies like Spiderman (2002), Wall-E (2008), In fact most of Pixar films, and Star Trek Wrath of Khan, Star Wars (1977), Despicable Me, and of course, the other versions of Transformers itself, TFP, G1, and WFC.
For people that like 2&1/2 hour long loud, chaotic robot fights, fart jokes, and BF and GF making out on the Camaro, this is their movie. But I really like to think about plot, and have memorable characters for me to be really engaged.

I generally steer clear of anything that gets bad reviews, rated R, or anything that looks like nonstop CGI explosions.

Sadly I own this and have watched it more times than the Transformers live-action movies... and that's not just for the cat-fight scene... its actually a reasonable movie considering it was made solely to steal money from people for The Asylum.

Wouldn't recommend buying it... but I wont lie... it kept me more entertained than ROTF and it didn't try to convince people it was representing the Transformers series (Other than the really dumb people who brought it because it looked like Transformers)

Those are bad movies - but most never watched those movies because they realised they would be bad. With Transformers you used to go into the movies with a good outlook believing they'd accurately represent the cartoons or prior media. But you don't go into them with a high expectation anymore You go into those without having a basic expectation of what they should be like and they always disappoint. Sure the other films on the list are dumb and completely idiotic - but at least they didn't have a fan base raised on rather intellectual, fun and engaging material.

Transformers is one of the worst movies for more personal reasons - mostly being that it disrespects the fan base and fails at being an enjoyable film series. I can still watch most the films you listed and find them enjoyably bad - but Transformers fits into a notch where its not enjoyable - its just bad. It sits in a corner of my room gathering dust because its impossible for me to watch with a clear conscience unless I'm feeling masochistic at the time. With the other films they are so bad that you can just find them a mind-fuck - but with Transformers its not even that bad, its just disappointing.

Rated-R movies are awesome! Depending on the film, of course. Everyone has different likes and dislikes. The remake of Carrie? Easily tops the original in my mind. Just wanted some slight differentiation and relations to the novel instead of the original movie.

Anyways, back on track! The above leads me into my next - gripe? Yeah, gripe, I guess. Why depend on a critic review to decide whether or not you'll like a film? You may have a completely different opinion on the movie than said critic does.

If you look at a bad review, you may be so engulfed by the negativity, that your mentality level shifts into 'Yeah, this movie's bad' mode, inevitably shifting into the 'automatic hatred' mode, all based upon what someone else said. I have fallen victim to this before.

I listen to critics' reviews, but usually I stick to detailed reviews, and with critics I respect and enjoy. That doesn't stop me from disagreeing with them, as well.

Nostalgia Critic didn't like Speed Racer? I love Speed Racer.

Linkara doesn't like the movies? I love the movies.

Yahtzee didn't like....Most games I like? You guessed it. I love most games I like.

You have a point, but being around negativity for even a short period of time, it starts to rub off on you. Frankly, I've stopped "lingering" around critic reviews too much before I see the film myself.

And the movies I've fallen victim to with reading a bad review first and watching the movie later, I've come to love those films.

Also, I'm assuming "the movies" refer to the cinematic Transformers. Right?

This. I rather liked the Speed Racer movie, too.

..Unless you mean the cartoon. Which I also enjoyed!

    Yeppers.

I usually have enough self control to not jump on a hate train, I like to think. I remember seeing the Critic's review of Man of Steel. While I don't agree with all of his points, I do think he had some good, intelligent points.

And, as the counter guy, Joe had lots of good points too.

I'm sorry, but I didn't like watching gore, or creepy stuff in movies. I always keep it PG-13 or under.
I try not to rely on critics, but I like to read reviews so I know whether or not the movie is worth my time and money. Usually reading reviews I can get a pretty good idea if it's a movie I'll be interested in.

Don't limit yourself, dude. I completely understand your preferences, but some Rated-R films can hold good messages, despite their level of gore and other, ahem, inhumane things! :ev:

I know, I'm overdoing it with the Carrie remake, but here me out. That movie, despite the infamous prom scene filled with gore (from both the new and original), holds two very solid messages. One is not to be an overly-religious nut. Carrie's mother, Margaret, was the center of this. Due to her religious background, she prohibited Carrie from doing things that would allow her to come out of her 'shell', so to say, and see how the rest of the world is. She told the poor girl her period is an act of the Devil.

The second is don't bully people, which is a really important topic today amongst teens and children. Mostly teens. Either way, the film clearly displayed the message that you can only push someone so far before they break. And in Carrie's case, this is true. Her peers at school bullied her so much throughout and at the prom, when a horrible joke was played on her, she snapped. And add to that that she has telekinetic powers, and, yeah. Doesn't work out so well for most people there. Although, I like how she spared the ones who never did anything to her. For example, her gym teacher.

Moral of the story, well, post - don't limit yourself.

Let's get this thread back on track.

I can't handle the wait! The anticipation! It's killing me (not really, but sort of). Plus, it's almost 99 days until Extinction! :D

    (Checks time)

In 48 minutes, for my time zone, anyway.

Lol, R rated movies might be for some people, but I'm afraid they would just make me paranoid.
