I already know the comments that are gonna be posted on this, but honestly, nobody but Bay would actually be able to pull this off. It would most probably be more human focused than Bay's films, and I know of no Directors who actually have the skill to pull off action sequences like Bay. Feel free to disagree, but without Bay, there will most likely be less Transformers.

I will say this about Bay. The dude knows how to make a fun movie.

    MAYBE NOT GOOD.

    But fun.

Was Revenge of the Fallen a good movie? No. Not really. But did I like watching it? Yep!

Let's compare with a movie like....Avatar by James Cameron. Is it a good movie? In my opinion, NO. Is it a fun movie? No. Its not. It really isn't. Give me Revenge of the Fallen, please.

Bay does make fun, summer flicks, and he does bring in the big bucks. So he's got that going for him.

I'm sure one day Transformers will be rebooted and we'll get the "OOH DRAMA! ANGST! CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!" film some fans have always wanted. But these films will always hold a special place in my heart.

Boom :bay  :bay  :bay  :bay  :bay  :bay

Del Toro maybe. Pacific Rim was well-received.

I think he is good at filming, but action scenes aren't really his strong point.

Action is what makes these movies successful, drama does not appeal to children, giant robots fisting each other does.

I say, we take some of Bay's hair, and Del Toro's blood, and we fuse the two together....

We'll either have a movie with terrible action scenes and worse writing, or the perfect giant-robot-action-moviemaker the world will even know.

I do disagree. I honestly think just about ANYONE would be better. I don't see much "skill" there at all. The use of shaky cam alone loses him any and all credibility with me as a director. If I never see that in a movie again it will be too soon.

I honestly think Peter Jackson could have made a Transformers movie ten times better than Bay. And, I thin a lot of it is because Bay is who we got stuck with. Bay didn't go looking to make the movies, he got stuck with it because literally every other director in Hollywood said no and even Bay almost refused as well. Bay didn't care about Transformers or the movie he was making and it comes out in the low quality product that we got.

Having said that, I am genuinely interested in why you say that nobody but Bay would be able to pull it off? What in the rest of Bay's career convinces you of that? Or is it the result of films put out by other directors that convinces you that they wouldn't be able to do better? I guess I just don't get the statement at face value, if any director has the right technology they technically "can" do it, so Bay really isn't the "only" one who could pull off a TF movie. So from that aspect alone the comment confuses me. And I see it a lot, which is why I'm asking.

I thought Dark Knight Rises was pretty good.

...Flawed, but I liked it for certain aspects.

I'm sorry, I lose you about that.

And what makes you say, the many many versions of live-action Transformers?

    Ridley Scott.

Even accepting your premise that no one could do better robot stuff or action scenes than Bay (which is ridiculous), the fact remains that the human stuff would be undoubtably better.

Besides, Del Toro. I mean, just right there, he could do every single aspect of these movies better.

But, to answer your initial question, Whedon, Nolan (not that he'd touch it with a ten foot pole), Shane Black, Richard Donner, Quentin Tarantino (who's actually even expressed interest in the brand before. Imagine that shit for a minute.), JJ Abrams, Spielberg, Zack Snyder, Mathew Vaughn, Jon Faverau, I'm-ashamed-I-can't-remember-his-name-but-the-guy-who-directed-X-1-and-2, Kevin Smith (don't lie, you'd see it), George Lucas if he put forth the proper effort... Most half decent directors...

Now would they make better Transformers movies? Most would, in my opinion, but they would ALL make a better movie than ANYTHING in Bay's entire filmography.

EDIT: Forgot to give a shout out for my boy Cameron.

Probably the best would be a co-production. Someone to write the drama/story & Bay to do the action scenes.

Prometheus was a disappointing sack of poooooooo!

The Abortion scene should have played for laaaaaaughs!

My girlfriend got aroused at the tentacle rape sceeeeeene!

    I mean....What?

    D-dad?

    Whedon is okay.

Nolan would make it too dark and edgy for my tastes. For Batman its fine, but this is Transformers! A sense of fun is needed, in my opinion.

    Shane's okay.

    Don't know who that it.

He'd need an R rating on it, I would think.

    LENS FLARE. Kidding. He's fine.

    He's fine.

His action scenes are even more insane and blurry than Bay's! Man of Steel was also disappointing. Not bad! No, no, no. But disappointing.

    Don't know him.

    He's fine.

    He's fine.

    Don't know him.

    ....Please, God no.

Honestly, there's not a Director I know that has Bay's...character. For better or worse.
