Bumblebee's head resembles a radio speaker. Look closely at it.



His mouth area is a speaker.



I read some of the comics, but nowhere did I read that his mouth area was redesigned. That's possibly his mouth from the beginning, but it looks like it was supposed to resemble a radio speaker from the start.
When he talks in the first movie, his jaw moves. So he could possibly actually have a mouth behind the radio thing, so that suggests that he does in fact have an actual mouth, even though it's never specified.

 

Looks more like a bee to me.

 

Actually from the get-go Speilberg didn't want ANY of the robots to speak English. Hasbro, obviously, said that'd kind of not work, but Steve got to keep Bumblebee mute for the suspense before Optimus showed up and just told them everything.

 

So HE'S the reason the decepticons can't say a word to save their lives. That would've been extremely stupid.

 

I don't see it

 

So they taped Bee's mouth shut just for suspense? Would of rather of seen him speak Cybertronian.

 

And because it was endearing. Afterall, it basically forced him to communicate through body language, and ILM did a pretty great job of that.

Really? The antennae, the big round eyes, the shape of the mouth area? granted it's a cutsified version, but still. And that's not even covering the rest of him. Yellow with black stripes, wings on his back. Hell, he at one point would've had Animated-style stingers. (that's where Animated Bumblebee got it from)

 

I see him not having a mouth as an ode to the original Bumblebee in g1....
because he didn't have a mouth then.....

Didn't original concept art have him looking literally like a bee? Saw that somewhere.

That's not his mouth though. If he actually speaks, you see the mouth.

I think Bee with the battle mask looks a little bit like an actual Bee, but by GOD the robots are hideously ugly in these films. Especially Bumblebee

 

Ouch.

Although I do wish that the designs were a little less insectoid every now and then.

In his voice you do sort of hear radio static though. So I agree that his mouth is the radio

 

He looks like a skull wearing a baby bonnet and a scuba respirator.
