Yes, but only when it's down to the wire or his life's on the line does he fight with all he's got. When he has to.
Otherwise he's a pretty mellow guy.

You dont see him sitting in a corner, sharpening his blades, fantasizing about ripping Decepticons' guts out when not in battle for instance.

I would say the bigger issue I have with him in ROTF and DOTM is not his character but that he is far too powerful. His weapons cut through metal armor like melted butter. It's just too much. I would rather they decrease how easily he defeats his opponents in the coming installment than decrease his gung-ho attitude--though I do wish it would go back to TRANSFORMERS (2007) levels.

And I disagree and disrespect you for that.

not when inconsistencies are the norm.

There we go ! Atta boy !

.................do you live a sheltered life or something ?

Well, Peter Cullen did mention he felt very uncomfortable saying "We will kill them all" at Botcon. I feel sorry that Bay made him say it : (

Eh, the Unicron trilogy was basically frickin anime. EVERYONE gets shot down in a single shot : ) But I agree with you, Cybertron Prime was cool

movie-wise, not so much. Did you notice the Decepticons are no more savage than the Terminators from the franchise ? Heck, when Optimus died in ROTF, his corpse was intact, the Decepticons didn't even bother mutilating it : /

ok, whatever flows up your creek.

    LOL How about no ?

Silly, why do you think there's no deleted scenes in the DOTM Blue-Ray ? ;)

You know, I've got another thought. Sure, Optimus seen his friends get killed over the years and likely is shell shocked, yes ? So taking real life examples, why don't we see Optimus snapping at his men or his allies more often? Real-life shell shocked veterans are like that, which is why we see marital or workplace problems. So all his pentup anger is towards Decepticons only ? So what is he ? Some kind of Mary Sue ?

Somehow he manages to bottle up all his grief and anger, and unleashes it at the right moment ? WAAAYYYY tooo convenient.

It's more then that though. He doesn't just give it all he's got when the chips are down. He fights dirty. He rips off faces and kills enemies begging for mercy. That's not the same thing as gving it your all in a fight.

To be fair to Peppers, he's just throwing what I said to him back at me.

I'd chalk it up to nigh-inhuman self-control, backed up by those "silent treatments" that Mearing scoffed at in the third movie - the one where she asks if his not talking was a silent treatment and Ironhide responds, "No, definitely not. We've seen that." It's likely that this Optimus realizes that if he's about to lose his temper off the battlefield, he simply walks away until he can get himself under control.

I actually want to like the movies, but everytime I try and look at them from another angle I just get reminded about why I'm so disappointed with them.

    true enough.

Not quite, you were reiterating your position with a few choice words. Sure, you disagree, but you didn't say anything about disrespecting someone else's opinion in the mix.

Oh come on ! The "alien" card ?! Really ?! What about Ironhide wanting to blast Sam's parents in TF1 ? or Ironhide (I will rip you apart) and the Bots threatening Galloway's men (who were pointing their guns at them first) when NEST was decommissioned ? Forget the probability of him actually doing the deed, he was getting less tolerant and patient by the moment.

    he's not gone that far.

Sorry, I should have been more clear - I was saying that his off-battlefield self-control is much greater than most Transformers, sort of like how Batman can have nigh-inhuman discipline and drive. Other people have said to have inhuman will before, both real and fictional - it's a figure of speech.

Edit: pitt55, I think that's a great summary of it. A lot of military folks are like that, some of the nicest, calmest men you will ever meet, but when it's crunch time, they step up and they are determined to win. It's like the old phrase, still waters run deep.

No, that's actually exactly what I said.

I don't agree or respect most of what Bellpeppers usually has to say.
