No, just not a fan of the plagiarist hack director nor the Austrian neo-nazi meathead. I can't see anything to commend the Terminator films, they're dull and derivative and just unpleasant to watch.

Aliens has the odd moment, mainly Weaver's performance, but otherwise is a hugely disappointment as a sequel and clearly made by someone with little to no understanding of what made the original such a classic.

These are just my opinions, and you are of course entitled to disagree with them. Dismissing them as "mad" suggests you might be more at home on 4chan.

Agreed. It's one thing not to like a certain director as a person, but it's another to hate on his movies for solely that fact.

Battlefield Earth. A film so bad they can't even do the wipe between scenes right.

Judge Dredd (1995). A cool British comic book turned into a horrible movie when Hollywood was still having problems with going from comic book to live action movie. The only bit worth really watching is in the trailer when he goes "I am the law".

Planet of the Apes (2001). A remake that somehow manages to miss out on all the charm that made the original a classic. A great example of how to screw up a remake into something both old and new fans will hate.

War of the Worlds (2005). Proof that even the greats like Steven Spielberg can mess something up every now and then.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Another stinker of what happens when Hollywood gets a cool comic book and decides they have to change everything.

Battleship. A concept that could have been really cool with something like an alternative history film, but instead the production team was so lacking in creativity they decided the only thing they could do was make it about aliens. So untalented that the whole film is a Bay rip off but can't hit the notes that make the insanity of a Bay film work.

Any Sci-Fi or Syfy movie of the week. Even worse film than the ones panned by Mystery Science Theater 3000 but without the witty banter to take the edge off the stink.

 

I, Robot? I liked it, I prefer the more optimistic ending to the shitty "lol machines rule u!" from the original story.

But I've been "bad talking" how I felt that Bay handled the Transformers movies and needed to balance things out, some movies are in fact worse than the Transformers movies Bay made. I created the list by picking up let say, GI JOE and ROTF and asked myself which one I rather spend my time watching.

 

Almost every action sci-fi movie that isn't Iron Man 3.

That's not to say those are bad. They're just not as good as the TF movies. But Iron Man 3 tops the TF movies.

It's some kind of odd dick-measuring contest in which people defend the fact that they *GASP* LIKE A MOVIE! Nothings wrong with genuinely talking about whats wrong with a movie or even comparing and contrasting it with another movie. But I'm not seeing any mature discussion about the movies here. Just talking shit about other movies.

In all honesty though, while I love Ed Norton, his version just didn't pack the same emotional punch the 2003 version did. Ed Norton's version did have some more epic fight scenes, though. But, while I could go on for days about those movies, Hulk is a thread for another site, I'm sure.

 

Daredevil by itself should count for 10 bad films........

 

Oh man, this is going to be tough... I did it for the one thread, I'll do it for the this one. Okay, here's 10 films that I feel do something as poorly or worse than one of the problem areas in the Bay films. Some of these films will be (IMO) worse than the Bay films overall, some will be better than some and worse than others, and some will probably be on par or possibly a little better overall (as I said, I'm going to focus on those problem areas). I'm going to limit myself to major hollywood releases, that I've personally endured, there's a lot of stinkers out there in the b-z movie bin that'll make this too easy and probably aren't an apt comparison...

So here they are in no particular order...

Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace - Characterizations that resemble the same stereotypes as the Twins, issues in pacing, new approaches to established characters that provoked significant fan-rage, shallow characterizations, a meandering plot that serves to take the protagonists from one spectacle to another, dragged by a toyetic supporting cast with often unclear motivations, and an underwhelming, unsatisfying "final duel".

Skyline - Extraterrestrial designs that are simultaneously overcomplicated and boring, an alien invasion plot that makes less and less sense the more you think about it, a romantic subplot that is painful to endure, a human protagonist who ends up getting alien superpowers as a deus ex machina.

Batman and Robin - Cringeworthy "humor", unpopular redesigns and needlessly toyetic plot devices, shoehorned characters and a resolution/falling action that feels rushed and overly contrived

The Avengers (the British one) - An update that completely misses the strengths of the original, with an incoherent plot and a lack of attention to continuity, poor performances and a focus on spectacle instead of substance

Oh man this hurts

Catwoman - Aesthetically ridiculous, a dramatic reinterpretation of an established character for the worse, poor characterization, fast-paced and fast-moving special effects that get in the way of the audience's perception.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Shallow characterizations that mistake "grittiness" for depth, only superficial adherence to a script that relies heavily on plot devices instead of actual intelligent thought, overcomplicated CGI-filled action sequences.

The Last Airbender - Horrifyingly bad special effects, wooden performances and diaglogue, a plot that manages to distill an entire season of a cartoon into something boring and ill-paced, "alien" environments that never really feel "real" or "solid", important societal implications about modern humanity that are never addressed or built upon.

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Explosions over story, a massive ignorance of physics and how the universe functions, needless "upgrades" to characters for the sake of superfluous action sequences that are then forgotten/abandoned, unrealistic connections between various main characters, jingoism.

The Matrix: Reloaded and Revolutions - Female character who loses all her own power and agency once she meets the "mary sue" protagonist, becoming a damsel in distress/trophy/cheerleader for him, great storytelling potential wasted time and again in favor of overwrought monomyth retreading and deus ex machina, wooden performances and a cast of shallow supporting characters who have little purpose beyond driving the protagonist to his next step

The Chronicles of Riddick - a movie that mistakes "grimness" for depth, and "badassery" for character depth, poorly thought out "science", substance over style, a near complete lack of denouement, poor pacing and a focus on often incoherent action sequences in close-up, and a story that ranges somewhere between forgettable and incomprehensible.

Personally, I liked Eric Bana as Bruce, but liked the story for Ed Norton's version better. I kind of wish they would've just started out with Mark Ruffalo though. He's perfect in that role.

 

highlander series comes to mind. I watched part of one once and was like WTF!?! turned that shit off.

battlefield earth was a travesty...

the last airbender was very baaad. loved the nick toon, but the live action was abominable. shamalan should never get to make another movie. ever.

 

The first Highlander was awesome. They should have the tag line "There can be only one" and kept it that way.

ok, it was highlander 2 the quickening, I think. turned it off around some fight scene in the middle. baaad.

 

I've got kind of the reverse going on. I totally prefer Bana Hulk's story more, but I liked Norton better as the Hulk. Still, the one constant variable is Ruffalo Hulk is Best Hulk. I don't really see him working for the 2003 Hulk, though, since Ruffalo is a VERY Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Bruce Banner, which wouldn't really work in Ang Lee's Hulk. That's just me, though.

 

im not a hulk expert, but I liked how the ruffalo hulk actually still looks like ruffalo. that and ruffalo is just a cool cat.
