So any news on whether Optimus will have the same design and alt mode in TF4? I hope so his look was one of the things they did right but I know some of you disagree. Will Bumblebee be the same as well?

I'm assuming minor changes will be made for toy sales.

Well, I believe there was a statement made a while ago implying the designs would be getting a massive overhaul, but I dunno. Honestly, I hope they do away with the previous trilogy's cast... I'd like to see some new bots.

^^^ I wouldn't be against this as long as Optimus stays. Say what you want but he makes Transformers go, IMO he is the greatest fictional character ever invented. Plus he will bring retention and famalararity with fans of the first 3 for higher revenues.

In the end it's all about the green.

I would love to see a more G1 accurate design.

I expect Optimus and Bumblebee to still be in the cast, even if everyone else is different. They might even push Bumblebee to the secondary level but I don't think he'll just dissappear. He's too popular.

I hope not, this is not the 80's anymore. I can't even remember the last time I've seen one of those flat nose cab trucks.

From what I recall, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will be returning from the previous trilogy but they are the only ones confirmed so far. I also remember Bonaventura(I think) saying not every Autobot would be carried over from the first trilogy. Also, it's been confirmed both OP and BB are getting new/updated designs for the film.

I really want the flames to be replaced by red right now because now red as seen in DOTM is not a problem anymore.

well i hope they give him and the rest of the transformer a cleaner look (more armor plating) so they look more like a robot rather then talking pile of metal..

if you take a human and give him\her the look of bayformer, he\she would be walking around with his\her skinned muscle showing here and there..

I'm guessing a retooled alt mode for Prime (Probably repainted slightly) - probably still the same basic alt mode though

Bumblebee I guess will be the newest Camaro car - most likely with a more 'older' look to him - think along the lines of DOTM with probably a different colour scheme or minor changes to the body.

"I'm assuming minor changes will be made for toy sales"

^ Mostly this though. Minor changes will be made. Bumblebee's alt mode will mean he'll automatically need a new toy anyway. Optimus will probably have a slightly repainted alt mode and a better looking robot mode (Not sure if he'll come back with trailer though... Personally hoping for an 'Overload' combo kind of like in Transformers Armada)

In all honesty (sans flames), I really like Prime's design in the movie. The actual toy is probably one of my favorite figures in the Prime lineup. He's the only character that it seems that the movie creative team took care to get "right". The abwork for DOTM was a nice subtle change. Add some upgrades to the ROTF version (new paint, buster cannons, and waist swivel) and it could be a hit.

I suspect he'll at least be recognizable to his earlier forms, in a way similar to how Prime Optimus Prime has changed into Beast Hunters Prime maybe? Given his recognizably and popularity with the demographics they're targeting, they'd be foolish to completely change the character beyond what was needed to sell a new toy effectively or revamp interest.

Let's hope they don't go the route of DOTM with the Voyager releases. Decent toys, but didn't hold a candle to the previous versions

It seems like it could be an interesting struggle between Hasbro and Paramount. If you are Hasbro then you really need some design changes because between three films and two seasons of Transformers Prime selling toys with the same look just kept getting harder. But if you are Paramount you might want the same look so you have something to draw back the people who have enjoyed the movies so far.

Although out of all the movie designs Prime was the only robot where I didn't have to say who is it? Enough of the iconic design elements that it was instant recognition even with an updated alt mode.

Who is that, and are they transforming or getting stabbed in the neck?

After TF1 I kept hearing they were planning on reducing the visual busyness of the designs with fewer internal parts visible. Personally I saw precious little evidence of that in ROTF or DOTM. Is it a Transformer or a box of cutlery? I don't have a huge problem with the designs in theory, and I understand the reasoning of having to fit an alien robot into a live-action (non-animated) universe. But the execution left a lot to be desired especially during action scenes. Too much unfamiliar alien detail moving too rapidly. It would probably be less confusing if we were actually introduced to the characters so we could get a relatively static look at them. Instead we get army guy, army guy, army guy, now that car turned into a box of cutlery and threw itself at that other box of cutlery... army guy, army guy...

I don't care about the designs that much but the damn thing has to be watchable. The only one with an excuse for being a confusing blur is Blurr.

I am willing to bet serious money there will be zero significant change in Prime's look (or any of the other established characters for that matter).

There has been too much spent on marketing and merchandising these designs--which are now iconic and recognizable world-wide--for them to be discarded for new ones (and have to start all over again).
