Working hard doesn't always result in a good outcome. I know a few basic things about rockets but even if I worked really hard I'm not going to be able to build something that would get to Mars. If anything me building a rocket ship would just result in a large explosion.

So Bay can work really hard on the films but if he doesn't have skills in story telling, building characters, or crafting epic bad villains then it's fair game for game for critics to point out the flaws. Yes directing a big budget Hollywood movie is hard but there are directors out there who have pulled it off better than Bay has.

I think Bay has thick skin and won't be easily put down.

Honestly, I don't give a damn anymore about either side, mainly because I know a lot of people on both sides of the equation will see the Bay movies anyway.

Nevermind the fact that two of Bay's movies (Armegeddon and The Rock) were released by Criterion.

The Critereon collection is a group of films that are considered noteworthy in terms of their impact, or as representatives of a certain time in history, or in terms of craftsmanship. The inclusion of these two films is more the first two than the third, and both are included as examples of the birth of "spectacle blockbusters" in the late 90s. For both films, the consensus on the criterion site is that Bay is talented, visually, but in these two films it is the outstanding cast that manages to elevate the result beyond a forgettable special-effects piece. And I'd agree with that, given how much I feel The Rock and Armageddeon are stronger films than the transformers trilogy.

It's also worth mentioning that there is an undercurrent of opinion that the Criterion collection releases more "mainstream" films that it can capitalize on with audience who would otherwise not be interested in their mainly classic and arthouse selection. Kindergarten Cop and numerous cult films like The Blob are also part of the collection, for example.

I think people get confused and think that Criterion Collection must mean the film is an all around great film. For example the movie Equinox is in the collection not for being a great film but because it's where many of the effects masters of the original Star Wars films tried their hand at film special effects. While the Criterion Collection has some of the best films from around the world it's also full of stinkers that were important for something other than being a well rounded nearly flawless movie.

Personally, I cannot condone the sexualized humor that happens inbetween the action scenes considering that there are children in the audience. Everything else has been discussed to death already.

The hate is justified for the most part. Bay only makes a good movie every 10 years or so. Bad Boys, The Rock, The Island and, surprisingly, Pain & Gain to name his bests (though you could argue The Island isn't all that good either). The rest is really *really* juvenile, self-indulgent, american army glorifying, pandering crap...

The hate is just too visceral for me.
People would go see a movie, love it, and if the director took off a rubber mask revealing Bay's face under it, they would find ways to start hating it.

Honestly, I think if Bay did do a TF movie in disguise people would be able to tell it was him regardless because he just seems unable to change his spots and his identifiable fingerprints would be all over it, even with all the Bay clones out there aping his style. If there was a TF movie that was loved by all then it's extremely unlikely Michael Bay would've been the person that directed it. So I'm fairly certain the situation you suggest will never happen.

Sure, some people do hate for the sake of hating, but others slate Bay beforehand because they know what he's like and worry he's going to inflict that on a property they love. But some will then admit the end product was actually not so bad. Bay has done some stuff I've enjoyed, but there's also some clunkers in there. Unfortunately those ones tend to be the Transformers movies.

Since this is the FOURTH movie, if people can't either just shut up and watch them, or ignore them and not complain. I just ignore those that trash Bay, after 4 movies, if you can't be smart enough to just move along, I can't help you, you clearly are just complaining to have someone listen to you at this point. I feel this way for the Resident Evil movie complainers as well

Guys, most of the people complaining are going to be there opening weekend. Complain all they want, they still pay for tickets :)

I agree, with Bay's unwillingness or inability to change it's just too easy to tell if it's a Bay film or not. Back when I had cable I could just sort of channel surf and even it was somewhere in the middle of a film I had not seen like the Island I could tell in a minute or two that it was a Bay film.

As hard as Battleship tried to be a Bay film it was just too easy to tell that it wasn't a film by Bay.

It's not like I don't want a really great Bay film because I love movies but the track record between what I like in a movie and what Bay thinks is great in a movie just doesn't work out. Our tastes are not completely different but they are different enough that I feel disappointed instead of I just enjoyed a movie.

I think so many people misdirect the hate!
It should be at Hasbro for letting it happen!
Misdirected rage just doesn't have the right effect.
