Haven't they said this about every film past the first...

 

Maybe they just mean the film will be shot without any lighting so the explosions are more prominent. Because the explosions are the real stars

DOTM was "darker" in the sense that the deaths were more brutal and the stakes higher.

Fact is you still don't really tend to give a shit because the rest of the film/characters have no real bond with the audience you know you're just watching a popcorn flick.

Now with TDK - Joker was completely unpredictable, and ultimately his plan wasn't to have those ships blow each other up, no, his plan was Harvey all along. His plan wasn't obvious until it was too late, and it's actions had far reaching consequences, even though Batman may've won that battle, physically.

for TDKR - we know the bombs going to go off no matter what Talia or Bane do to stop Batman. But we don't know whether it'll take Gotham with it or not, and if not Gotham, whether Batman can survive that. Even though we know that good will triumph over evil, the threat of the villains in the Bale films (and really, any good film) seem a lot more believable than anythings Bay's done.

DOTM was darker, but at the end of the day it was the same result as the first two movies. Optimus comes in, slices up a thousand Decepticon no-names and the world is saved with a patriotic look towards the skies. I don't suspect any different to TF4.

 

No, it's needs to be well written and not a sandwich made out of shit.

Man, when I was 5, I loved the Teletubbies.

 

I thought TF3 was dark enough. You can't really get much darker without delving into an R-rating, honestly. All that I really want to see is less toilet-humor.

I don't really want SUPERGRIMDARKSERIOUSBRO. I just want an enjoyable action movie that doesn't resort to the crude and out-of-place humour.

I disagree with Pirates 4 being a reboot, but I agree with the point you're making, Scorpio.   That's what I thought/hoped Transformers 4 would/will be - a film set in the same universe, but starting out with new adventures and a handful of returning cast members to establish continuity with past films. Not a reboot, but a "new adventure".

 

A complete take over? The Decepticons took over one city and defended it poorly.

The massacring of humans was pretty dark.

It seems almost like cut and paste at this point the things they tell us each time a new Transformers film is in the works. It's always about how much they learned from the last film and how this time they will improve the movie so much because they listened to the criticism. Should not be too long before they even bring back the old lie of they care about what fans think about the movie.
